Reviewing the red deisel threads I was confused to see that some MoBoers refer to their past time as a "sport." Can anyone enlighten me as to how this activity can be called a sport? I enjoy the occassional drive in a car or walk in the country, but in the absence of competition I wouldn't call either of these activities a sport. Whats the difference?

an interesting observation which is borne no doubt from the generic "sport, leisure pastime, hobby" arena.
however some may well, allied to their boating, partake of racing, fishing, waterskiing etc which are to a greater or lesser degree sporting activities.
in Priddy's and other adventurer's the term probably stands up against their (motor) boating alone and in BrendanS's case ....../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

water skiing and mobo racing are sports in my book. Not mobo on its own. To be even handed is pootlling about in a sailing boat with no particular purpose a sport? It does have the advantage of some physical activity, and a bit more guile (sp).

Ah if you want to look at it from the 'aerobic workout' principle recent posts would indicate that the following can get a good work out on a mobo 'cruise' -
1. Mike21 - constant use of throttle and gears
2. Col - constant use of large spanner to replace props
3. Numerous - recovery of heavy anchors after lunch
4. BrendanS - single handed steering in heavy weather (whilst hanging on to the screen - in case it fell off)
5. Many - constant adjustment to heavy steering on single outdrive craft at displacement speed.
6. Some - constant restocking of bar and disposal of empties!
