Re: anchors over the pontoons

Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,
Think I see my friends coming, Riding a many mile.
Friends, did you get some silver?
Did you get a little gold?
What did you bring me, my dear friends, To keep me from the Gallows Pole?
What did you bring me to keep me from the Gallows Pole?

I couldn't get no silver, I couldn't get no gold,
You know that we're too damn poor to keep you from the Gallows Pole.
Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,
I think I see my brother coming, riding a many mile.
Brother, did you get me some silver?
Did you get a little gold?
What did you bring me, my brother, to keep me from the Gallows Pole?

Brother, I brought you some silver,
I brought a little gold, I brought a little of everything
To keep you from the Gallows Pole.
Yes, I brought you to keep you from the Gallows Pole.

Hangman, hangman, turn your head awhile,
I think I see my sister coming, riding a many mile, mile, mile.
Sister, I implore you, take him by the hand,
Take him to some shady bower, save me from the wrath of this man,
Please take him, save me from the wrath of this man, man.

Hangman, hangman, upon your face a smile,
Pray tell me that I'm free to ride,
Ride for many mile, mile, mile.

Oh, yes, you got a fine sister, She warmed my blood from cold,
Brought my blood to boiling hot To keep you from the Gallows Pole,
Your brother brought me silver, Your sister warmed my soul,
But now I laugh and pull so hard And see you swinging on the Gallows Pole

Swingin' on the gallows pole!

Re: axe available

with the impending housemove, i have fortunately re-found my fabulous new axe which i bought in Keswick last year. Very sharp, also quite light and handysized, unlike the awkward great big heavy things from the olden days which probaly would have hurt too.

Re: hang on

beheading with an axe is a notorioulsy unreliable way
you need a big beheading axe and a skilled hand
even then lots of beheadings did not always strike a fateful first blow

this new method islikelyto be more traumatising for the crowd ( or entertainnig depending on your view) than the old long drop.

by the way what is to happen to jimis boat?

Re: the fate of the boat

The local environmental services have insited that it gets burnt. This is nothing to do with the event, but could be scheduled at the same time.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, why is jimi being hanged/executed? I expect it is all complicated, and inevitable, like most things these days, and i don't want to appear an old stick-in-the-mud by carping up, so i suppose i will have to agree.

Yikes .. it wisnae me

The sheriff's men yanked the blocks out from under the scaffold floor. The platform toppled to the ground, but the condemned men fell only a few inches. Their ropes were purposely left short so their necks wouldn't break and they would slowly strangle to death. It was that spastic dance lasting sometimes as long as fifteen minutes that the drunken crowds savored. It was the slow empurpling of the face that delighted and the glimpsing of the ever-spreading stain upon the trousers as the last-gulped liquor exited the bladder.

Once dead the pirates were cut down and tied to posts. Tradition dictated that three tides of Thames water must rise and fall over their heads before the execution was officially complete. Some poor sheriffs helper with a shilling or two for drink would have to sit at river's edge and guard the corpses so no souvenir-hunter would clip off a body part or a button to cadge a pint in an alehouse.

Re: the fate of the boat

to be honest i have no idea either
but it seems churlish to stand in the way
unless jimi asks his old shipmates to mount an appeal or a daring do rescue.

Re: Kafkaesque

... sorry guys, I've just joined this post - a bit late. Isn't execution a bit hard just because our Jimi's got an overloaded holding tank? Oops!

Re: Kafkaesque

It's not just overloaded - it is dangerous to everyone and could be unleashed in as little as 45 minutes or less! And he is very well aware that it is lethal cos he has a first aid kit on board. So, that proves it, and resulting action got through a vote, somehow, so it is now The Will Of The British People.

Or, perhaps we've all been conned by a load of old sh*t - again??
