If my fingernails aren't strong enough to do the trick I work a thinnish screwdriver in and twist it through ninety degrees to open the end.

Possibly. But many of us now have ARF , "age related fumbling".

A one handed tool would be nice so you can hold on with the other. I love my boat but sloping side decks are a challenge.
