Split pins in rigging screws wisdom

I've use rings, and inspect them regularly. I've only twice found problems ... and once on my last boat when I found that some cad had stolen several of them. Not quite the thing, I thought. A bit low.

I hate the split rings. I reckon I lose two or three a year where they're used on the guard wires. If there's a trend, those at the bow are more likely to disappear than those at the granny gates which are more convenient for any passing cads, so I tend to blame the seas and the weather and the split rings themselves.

I use split pins but never tape them up
I cut lengths of 32mm plastic pipe & then cut a slit in it so it will snap over the wire & drop down over the bottle screw. i can raise it quickly to check or adjust rigging - which i do regularly to tune the rig
If the tubes were to ride up- which they do not- then i could stick a piece of tape on the end or drill a small hole & tie down with a piece of whipping twine.
