Mine is exactly the same. I am Very careful to handle only the parts of the rod that live under the Acrylic. I am going to give the shrink wrap a try. The rods on the Barton Boomstrut are fully shrink wrapped and they are as good as new.

The poles run horizontally, with the ropes tied down onto it. They are mostly covered by the cover as they run through sleeves in it, but are exposed at the points where the ropes attach.

Thanks for all the feedback so far!
Sorry thread drift.

Looking at your picture you appear to have a stac pac that ends short of the mast and a separate mini sail cover to cover the rest.

We currently have a stac pac that does not go all the way to the mast. It needs replacing. We have two options, replace with like for like and then that mini sail cover idea to cover the last but up to the mast. Or replace with a larger one piece stac pac that does go all the way to and around the mast, but that might be harder to detail and get it right first time as we would have nothing to copy for the mast end bit.

So am i right your stac pac on it's own does not reach the mast and that is a separate mini sail cover around the mast?

Yes, that stacpac is almost identical to mine and there is a separate 'mast coat'.
I think an all in one stacpac would be rather bulky to store whilst sailing but if it could be done neatly then it would be a nice enhancement. Can't say I have ever seen one.

I used to stabilise the splinters on my windsurf sail battens with a resin called Bond Seal .This was actually in hand as a bonding primer for our mirror dinghy when it required additional fibreglass.
There must be a modern equivalent - it was effective in protecting the pockets and easy to apply .

My lazy jacks have 2 poles to hold up the sides, but the poles have become worn and will give you nasty fiberglass splinters if you dare to approach them which then stay in your hands for days.
What's the best solution - a fiberglass resin coat, epoxy, or am I best just buying new ones?
Thanks
Mine were made from the same metal as cheap broom handles. Just replaced with B&Q plastic conduit, easy to cut to size, just as supportive.
