As the Huntress is no longer mine and the Huntsman is not mine yet (although its coming along in leaps and bounds and I am really chuffed so far, reckon about 3 more weeks at it will be mine) I needed a fix of boating, so today I took the famous dinghy and outboard from the "Events of Sunday" fiasco, with a pal, all the way up the Hamble on the high spring tide, we left the yard at about 12, got to the Horse and Jockey Pub (you cant go any further unless in a canoe) and had a couple of pints, we saw a Heron and some fish which might have been Bass, and another Heron which may have been the same one but maybe not, it was hard to tell. In true Famous Five style (and all the boys ran back to the farm house and the farmers wife served lashings of custard and ginger beer, rah rah rah) we went back to the fork in the river and set off for Botley, we made it all the way to the road by the mill, noisey dirty and smelly, a plastic bag availed itself of the prop so I hauled OB aboard and cleared the prop and we set off back down river. Twas a lovely day the peace and quiet of the upper reaches of the river were only ruined by the dreadfull drone of the outboard, finally reaching base camp at about 4.30, just time for tea and cakes.

Total cost of the boat and OB is £80 and cost of the day about £8 and it was a brill day out, hope its inspiration to those who'd like to go boating but are scared by cost.

We used about 2 litres of fuel, but dont tell eco warior cos he'll call me a c***.

For sale, 1970 Triumph Spitfire-sold, 1947 Lambretta, 1922 Great grandmother, PM for details.

Re: Grass roots stuff.

Sounds idylic. Some of the best days out are days like that. I keep a dinghy and outboard registerd for the thames for those bright winter days when the boat is laid up. Some great days had last year with the kids doing all the work

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

It sounds an ideal day. You sometimes cannot beat the simple style of
boating. I also take my dingy out like that.

As for cost, my main boat does not cost the earth. I have spent less
than £175 on fuel for over 600 nm of boating, both on the sea and river.

I dont think eco_warrier will be telling you anything for a while!!

Thanks

Brochure Day!

Glad to hear you also had a splendid afternoon. Mine was different to yours but just a much fun.

Wife dropped me of at Shepperton where I met four good friends at 09:00. The crisp autumn air, slightly cloudy sky interspersed with bright sunshine made an excellent start.

Even better, a quick round of Mimosas as we pulled out of the marina and one of the crew programmed a varied but brill selection of sounds into the cd autochanger.

We cruised down river, hardly saw a commercial vessel and hit every lock just in time. Made good time to Richmond and stopped at the pub for lunch. Rang Turks to get permission to moor on their big white jetty thing and they said go ahead. Sat in the Sun and looked back at the boat, she looked great.. wow... I thought.

Back on board by 12:30 to get through Richmond on time. A brief bit of fun just before Chelsea Harbour, got overtaken by small speed boat doing about 30 knots...looked great fun but decided not to give chase (sure you will all be pleased to know) as a we were a bit to big to do that speed and get away with it.

As we arrived at Tower Bridge they opened it up for a large paddle steamer thingy that we saw disappearing into the distance.

Called St Kats, waited 10 mins and then went straight in. Faultless...Brilliant....Fantastic. We moored up and after several more mimosa's we decided that from now on we would call these sort of days "Brochure" days as thats what you think every day is going to be like when you first part with your cash. It makes the money and the aggro seem all worth while..

Caught train home..huge roast dinner waiting..slept
