As the Huntress is no longer mine and the Huntsman is not mine yet (although its coming along in leaps and bounds and I am really chuffed so far, reckon about 3 more weeks at it will be mine) I needed a fix of boating, so today I took the famous dinghy and outboard from the "Events of Sunday" fiasco, with a pal, all the way up the Hamble on the high spring tide, we left the yard at about 12, got to the Horse and Jockey Pub (you cant go any further unless in a canoe) and had a couple of pints, we saw a Heron and some fish which might have been Bass, and another Heron which may have been the same one but maybe not, it was hard to tell. In true Famous Five style (and all the boys ran back to the farm house and the farmers wife served lashings of custard and ginger beer, rah rah rah) we went back to the fork in the river and set off for Botley, we made it all the way to the road by the mill, noisey dirty and smelly, a plastic bag availed itself of the prop so I hauled OB aboard and cleared the prop and we set off back down river. Twas a lovely day the peace and quiet of the upper reaches of the river were only ruined by the dreadfull drone of the outboard, finally reaching base camp at about 4.30, just time for tea and cakes.
Total cost of the boat and OB is £80 and cost of the day about £8 and it was a brill day out, hope its inspiration to those who'd like to go boating but are scared by cost.
We used about 2 litres of fuel, but dont tell eco warior cos he'll call me a c***.
For sale, 1970 Triumph Spitfire-sold, 1947 Lambretta, 1922 Great grandmother, PM for details.
