Whilst sailing in the Baltic and Holland I have always purchased a non-smelling fuel for my ORIGO cooker. It is also very cheap. Here in the UK you have to use meths which stinks and is expensive. Anyone know if the continental fuel can be obtained here at a reasonable price?

It was me started the previous thread, Steve . . .

I pursued several manufacturers of denatured alcohol, and they all told me that everything except the purple stuff is bonded and you have to have a license from HM Customs and Excise.

This, of course, is because us Brits have no self control and will drink anything that isn't purple. Personally, I quite like lager and blackcurrant, so that's that theory down the tubes.

(The Swedish government are not known for trusting their population when it comes to booze, but you can buy pure, clean burning stove spirit there for some mysterious reason).

When I was out in Northern Russia you could get cheap voddy for 40p/bottle - that would undoubtably do the trick, and serves as medicinal backup as well if you are brave enough. (I think it should probably have been purple as well).

Apparently there is nothing to stop you buying the stuff in France, so the thing to do for all you Southern sailors is to get your channel crossing buddies to bring you some back.
