The PR blurb of the rollover of Spririt 111 says.

" and will be one of a few superyachts capable of sailing without a professional crew due to its innovative deck arrangement."

Is there a little warning bell that a sailing boat of this size WILL need a professionally qualified captain ?

Do you happen to know what its LLL is? LWL is quoted at 24m, so I would anticipate that the LLL is less than 24m.

So, assuming that's true, if its UK flagged, I would have thought that no "special" quals or crew needed (assuming not coded) and for the owners private use. Don't know what underwriters might make of it though.....

Well, it´s commissioned for an experienced yachtsman. So I assume he has the right paperwork. It says nowhere the owner is british or under what flag she will be registered (well, I couldn´t find it anyway). More likely to be some offshore or tropical island like registration, as most superyachts are.

Back in the 80's I went to look at a problem with a brand new Jongert, about 30m, in Ocean Village. She was on her first trip out of Holland and heading south. 3 or 4 crew plus skipper who was a very pleasant young man. During conversation I asked him what the owners were liked and he replied that he was the owner. Made a lot of money, sold the business and had the boat built. He employed the crew but skippered her himself

She will definitely have a full time captain and I think a very good friend of mine has got the job... Fingers crossed and I might get to have a sail!

My daughter crewed on a spirit 70 a few years ago down to Sicily as knew the skipper and chef and was one of her favourite trips so I envy you if you get the chance . Not much harder to sail than any other yacht though I gather but everything is rather slumming it after that I suspect even if the budget did stretch to a Jongert as opposed to a Moody.
