Since launching this year the speedo on my Alpha 1 Gen II leg has not worked. It was fine at the end of last year. I have tried cleaning out the intake hole with a piece of soft plastic covered wire but this had had no affect, unlike last year.

Despite looking through the manual I can find little if any info about how it works. I assume that it works as some kind of pitot static device with a pressure sensor in the leg that sends an electrical signal to the speedo. If this is the case does anyone have any ideas on how to fault find or, more importantly, has anyone thought of a good way to test when on the trailer?

bet it's more basic than 'sensor in the leg' stuff!

check behind spedo and if there is a plastic tube going into the middle then its a pressure feed all the way from the leg.

if so now go looking for kinks in the pipe etc although you could try a bycle pump onto the disconnected pipe to try and clear any obstruction back out through the leg.

good luck

also try using a drill bit, by hand only!, in the front of the leg - the same size as hole. its all metal anyway.

Tend to agree. I've just been over to the boat and it looks as though there is a tube coming from the leg. Did not want to force it and having come back and looking at the manual I have discovered how to remove it. It looks as though blowing down it could simulate mucho speedo. If I put a funnel on I could even appear to keep up with you!

Also took a drill with me and noticed there was a burr / corrosion on the inlet, so this may not have helped although it wasn't blocked completely and speedo does not read at all.

Thanks for help, and it looks as though could be homing in on solution.

i would trim the drive up and check that the engineers have actually reconected the speedo tubefrom the transom plate to the drive. they have a habit of forgetting to connect this when they refit the drive after a service
