What I can't understand is when you said you knew all about the 8kph limit?

With a name like yours, what were you on, 'Speed' ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It's great to see a positive outcome to such an initially negative topic. I think AfroDuck has the good of the river at heart. Welcome Aboard young man !

Do not worry though... you are not bottom of the pecking order so long as you dont buy a Narrowboat!

You are always welcome at Church Island to stop for ice and a beer. And another beer. And perhaps another one.

Do stop though, the island is easy to miss at 25 knots /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

one of my favourite stops, well it sells alchohol lol, the manager of the Marina, Peter often finishes work and then works a shift in the pub, it's not changed, still like Vera Duckworths front room, foods not bad and I love the dry sense of humour of the staff, always made to feel welcome amd free overnight mooring if you use the pub.

Excellent, sounds like a good place to pop into then! Just about finished here, hopefully out of here in an hour or so, boat all loaded, dog/ house sitter on the case and the sun is shining. Thanks Shades for the store info. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have to say, having just read both of these mega-threads, that I'm completely shocked by the reactions of some on here to what he did.

Yes, it was a stupid thing to do, but we all do stupid things when we're young. It was stupid to be so traceable online also, but the same thing applies.

As far as I can see, he passed no boats in the video and although it was not a safe speed I'm amazed at the hunt for info that went on, even resulting in someone finding his Bebo account and posting it for all to see!

If he was my son and someone had just publicly outed him as a criminal for speeding down the thames with nobody around by posting a social network account with details of friends and home info on it I think I'd be tracking down the person that did it to teach them a lesson!

I'm in absolute agreement with Richard's decision to get the link removed, and I'm sort of ashamed at the baying for blood that went on when the matter could clearly have been dealt with privately between the moderators and the Thames authority/EA.

I'm all for 'teaching someone a lesson' but as far as I'm concerned this was completely the wrong way about it - I hate chavs and yobs as much as the next guy but there was no criminal damage caused, was there?

And unless any of you have any proof that this was carried out anywhere other than the quiet areas of the Thames then how do you have the right to accuse him of it? I understand that it was still wrong but is slapping a 'kid' with a fine really the right option? I think a warning would do the job fine.

Young people push the boundaries and speeding is clearly wrong, but this should have been dealt with privately IMO.

As some of you will know, living on the river I am always complaining about speeding boats. I witnessed the Quicksilver with kids in it speeding over a couple of weeks and complained to Lindon Lewis Marine who provide a mooring for the boat. Lindon Lewis Marine made it clear that they do not want to provide services for people who disrespect the river and if they continued would terminate their mooring contract. On Tuesday of this week they had a meeting with the owner who did not know their children were taking the boat. They have now removed the engine to stop them from going out so hopefully we won't catch them speeding anymore.
Still have had no luck with the cruiser that was speeding past our place so fast that it pulled our concrete mooring post out - the EA does need ot crack down on speeding for users and residents.

Chris,

As the one who 'found' the Bebo profile, I have to inform you that no 'hunt' was required, he made it clear on his Youtube profile that he had a Bebo account, he even gave his full email address. As for me posting it, may I remind you that it was already in the public domain and that no 'personal' details were made available. I don't beleive that I ever was 'baying for blood'.

So now you suggest that his parents take issue with me for finding something which their son has choosen to put in the public domain? What an excellent example to set.

Let's get this straight, the guy openly posted a video showing he was speeding illegally, he also posted links to a social networking profile and I followed the link. That's it.

Anyway, he has joined this forum now and, whilst his attitude on Youtube was less than acceptable, I give him enourmous credit for having the balls to openly apologise in person. Credit where credit is due.

Just To sort this out, I am not the one with the youtube account or the one who posted the videos or bragged about it, that was actually a friend who was the one filming on his phone and everyone thinks that was me but it isnt.
I would not call myself a chav or a yob im a respecting member of society , who is currently study for my A levels atm.

OK.

Understood.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Madhouse.

Consider this a reply to your post in the other thread.

It's the weekend, I'm outa here.

We also live on the river and have our boat moored here. The speeding is a major issue not just with the damage to boats, but also bank erosion. I hear what you all say about the young lad in an open boat "giving it some" but he was in an area with no moored boats etc, We have had boat after boat after boat come past with absolutly no regard to moored craft exceeding the speed limit and creating a large wash behind them. The bulk of the issues is actualy with the larger boats of 32' upwards who don`t seem to realise how fast they are going. 8KPH is actualty very slow, walking pace. The EA also sugest this is a maximum and you shoud watch your wash. I am also amazed at how they will go fast past our frontage and cause wash yet slow down to go past the visitor moorings close by where their fellow club members are moored..... !
Just to also incriminate the comercial users as well , on saturday at around 4.30pm we had one of the Caversham Trip boats returning back to Caversham from Beale Park traveling at around 8 or 9 knots causing a a wash behind it so its not just the pleasure boaters.
Please guys, just because you have a nice Marina berth and don`t have to worry about the damage to your boat have some respect for craft moored on the river. I wont name and shame just yet, but do have CCTV installed now as its getting beyond a joke.
