I have an E.M.I. electralog 1 which no longer works. The impeller hull skin fitting
with this unit has a watertight chamber. The diameter through the hull on this unit
is 80mm.Can anyone recommend a new unit to replace without having to re/fibreglass ect. Thank you for any help.

Glad to see someone else with the same problem changing over from a eletralog.. I am about to upgrade the log and depth on my new boat. I was looking to see if there was a flange available. I have only just got the boat and have just stripped the log out today although I have not toughed the skin fitting. If you come up with any thing I will be interested. I though it may be possible to get a reducing flange otherwise it is glass fibre time.

I think both of you will be disappointed.
If you do refibreglass, you could do worse than fit Raytheon (now Raymarine) ST40 instruments. I fitted a Bidata this spring and it's been first class - not cheap, though.

I fitted a Nasa log. They are about the cheapest you can buy. They are accurate and reliable. However they do not seem to last very long. The point of interest to you, may be the diameter of the hole required. It is large! I had to enlarge the hole from my Stowe log. If I buy anything larger next time I will be able to use the hole as an underwater escape tube!
This does save the complication of fitting a reduction flange or fibre glass work.

Gougeon Brothers/West System, in their booklet show a system of dishing out the OUTSIDE of the hole, and glassing layers of matting into the dished area. Each layer of matt to slightly smaller than the previous layer. The first layer being the biggest.
Epiglass, in their booklet, show the same method. You can send off for a booklet from Epiglass. I think the address is in PBO.
