Speed limit in anchorages

Am I the only person who thinks there should be a speed limit and a no wake rule in anchorages, as exists nearly everywhere in the Med? A (rarely) flat calm Whitecliff Bay on the eastern side of IOW today was ruined by one RIB waterskiing back and forward through the moored boats, creating noise and endless wash. It's the same in Priory Bay next door, if not worse.

Well the sea is for all to enjoy , but if going between boats could be be a colision issue . Ho would you feel if they made Whitecliffe bat ski only .

I’ve had the same in WB before. It’s just selfish, go out to sea and enjoy your boat/PWC but not among boats on anchor please.

And the sea is vast. Anchorages are not however and probably not the place to zoom around.

the ski guys could have been there first , most people ski from beaches , i aggree it would be good if buoyed off , but not so easy as the med .

The point being they were skiing in restricted waters so it doesn't matter if they were there first. Even if it wasn't restricted waters, skiing and racing through boats at anchor breaks Rule 6 regardless of who got there first although COLREGs do not exonerate those at anchor as those vessels still have certain responsibilities but the lion's share of blame would still lie with the ski boat in any accident or claim

Not sure why you’re defending these guys. It’s a tiny bay and a lot of sea behind it. Why zoom around the bay and annoy anchored boats when you can use the space behind it?

I am not defending them , may be it should be managed , ie mooring bouys put in , no anchoring and say charge £30 quid for the day .

You two seem to be missing the point. It's restricted waters. It is managed. 10knt speed limit to 1000 yards offshore. Period. What are you two arguing further for? It's like watching two turkeys fight over a hen while she's making off with the runt.

point made but you can ski at 10knts , that would make more wake .

Sorry, I just had to laugh at that. Anyone who has dropped their hook in the Med knows that if there is a law, it is widely ignored

10 knots in a small bay is probably too much.
I’d argue it should be a wake free zone but don’t want to sound like a turkey by saying anymore!

:ROFLMAO: You're a good sport. Im in complete agreement with your sentiments, but lets find another way to get the boot in on Roy.

So you respond tell me its rubbish and Im right? 900 yards vs 1000 yards. Id write to the MOD and complain the Navy is shite and its no wonder we lost the empire.
