the burners on the cooker hob are held in place with a screw. On one burner, this has corroded, snapped off and I now need a replacement burner assembly. The cooker is a "Nautic Mariner" and I don't have any other model/build details. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to source spares.
thanks

All the Plastimo branded cookers are made by Leisure Products (Bolton) Ltd. They were very helpful to me and things like screws may be common to other makes. Sorry, don't have contact details at moment but I'm sure you'll find them through Google

I have had this problem and had to drill the old ones out. New screws are available from CalorMarine, near Southampton. However, there is nothing special about the screws and you could probably get them from any supplier of s/s fastenings.

I painted the threads of the new screws with Duralac [from chandlers, but expensive] in the hope they will not seize again.

The long term solution is to buy a cooker that is really fit for marine use but there aren't many and they cost a lot.

It may be of interest that Plastimo now include as maintenance, regular stripping and cleaning of the burners. This would effectively prevent the screw becoming seized.

My cooker had never been used and was still in it's original packaging when I bought it. It had been bought for a boatbuilding project but the original purchaser changed his mind and sold it. It had been stored in the dry for a year or two so was not covered by any warranty, otherwise I would have returned it.

When I installed the cooker one of the burners wouldn't work properly and all the controls were very stiff so I dismantled the thing, and found various seized screws caused by dissimilar metals in contact. in the end I took it to bits completely and used Duralac on every thread. I was not very impressed by having to do what the makers should have done.

Incidentally, I know a man who sells and repairs outboard motors and he told me he dismantles new ones and greases all the screws before sale. This saves a lot of hassle later.
