Spanish Nautical Terms?

Yes it does, but when used at the start of a sentence it sort of means 'Can I have your attention please.' Its spelt mire, the e pronounced like the e in elephant. Very useful in shops & cafes....

there is actually both "mira" and "mire"

"mira" is the more friendly form, should be used in cases where one uses "tu" (singular you) with the other person "Mira, I told you to stop doing that!"

"mire" is more formal, respectful, should be used when "usted" would be more appropriate with the other person, "Mire, would you please be so kind to interrupt what you are doing, Señor"

same difference as between "tu" and "vous" in French :)

mira is spelt like mirror

Using "mire" in the way you propose is like cracking a whip and then asking your question. DON'T USE IT IF YOU WANT A CIVIL RESPONSE.

It would be much more useful to start with "perdona" . . . .

Or perdone even...... Where is BILBO?..... Do you mean BILBAO?

Amigo Plomong, before saying how to ask for things in Spanish you should consider that not everybody is going to lift out their boats in BilbAo.

If you ask for a hard standing (according to you, planchada) nobody is going to understand you in Spain. They may understand you in Pais Vasco, but that word is not used in any other region to call for a hard standing.

By the way, I am Spanish. Don´t know if you are too.
