Spanish marinas

Just back from visiting my boat in Denia Spain,the marina usually pretty full is now emptier than when I first arrived 9 years ago.Is this a sympton of the recession or has there been an exodus from the Med. How are other Marinas? The cost of living in Spain must be higher now than UK.
 
last summer Villamoura, portimao and lagos marinas in portugal all looked to be between 50-75% capacity, but I went to Villamoura in November and it was fairly full. I'm going back to portugal on sunday to launch, so it will interesting to see if the marinas there are still full. I suspect last years price rises will drive many people away, especially in the summer months.

I'm afraid that you'll need wellies rather than carpet slippers- we're having the wettest winter on record ( due to global warming ? )- the forecast for Sunday is "heavy rain" & thunder storms on Mon.

We have been living in Javea this winter (not on our boat) but have been enquiring at nearby marinas to see what was available. Like you say there is plenty of room at Denia but we were told there was no room for our boat (12m) at Javea, Moriaira or Calpe this winter and were also told there is unlikely to be space next year. Not sure why this should be and may just be specific to those 3 marinas.

Interesting Javea has always been impossible to get into.Marina de Denia is well run with a few (pricey) restaurants.The main thing for us is its proximity to the Balaerics. Incidently it was +2C when I drove to the airport last week.Roll on global warming

Worry not, at least its warm rain, not snow and misery that we're having here, and the rain will be good for the decks, they were looking a bit dry. :D
 
We were in Marina de Denia from summer 2004 to April 2009. In that time the fees rose from 5K€ a year to 16K€ a year + G5 and the threat of matriculation tax meant we brought Seraph back to the UK.

Javea, as far as I am aware is a private marina and is almost impossible to get a berth in.
Moraira is smallish and the waiting list for berths is in excess of 15 years - my name is on the list.

There is a newish marina in Denia called El Portet (no, it's not the El Portet in Moraira); can take up to 18metre boats and slightly cheaper that the other 2 established marinas.

There is also a new yard in Denia doing haulouts/antifoul/servicing etc so at last some competition for Club Nautico - we used them in March 2008 and would certainly recommend them.
 
Much cheaper than Denia but just up the coast is Valencia. Their rates are amongst the lowest we've found so far en route from Gib, and there is plenty of space. Of the 2 marinas, Juan Carlos 1 has the better transport links (under 1 hr by public transport to the airport) and is well located for shops, nightlife etc. The facilities are not as good as Denia, but acceptable and getting better since the AC razzmatazz.
 
There's no space for 12 metre boats here in Marina Port Vell but there's space for 15 metres and above. No space in Port Olympic but space is available further north and south of Barcelona. Prices remain as before - just shy of 3000 euro for the winter. Weather's not too bad to day but looks like rain for the next few days.....
 
At the moment in Catalunya/Catalonia there are approx 6,000 recreational boats for sale. In most of the marinas up and down the Catalan cost there are berths for sale or rent. The prices are falling both for boats and berths monthly. Spain is really suffering with nearly a 15% unemployment rate. Good time to be looking for a boat over here if you've got money.

The new marina in Torrivieja is less than 1/2 full, and lass than 6K a year for a 15mtr berth.

I know its not everyone's cup of tee, but that's not too expensive.

Cant remember the name, " La Salinas " or smoothing.
 
Cartagena is trying to attract customers with cheap prices, but is still very empty.

Its new, secure and very friendly but is having trouble with the electrics which keep tripping. Up to 8 volts between Neutral and Earth!!! This usually happens in the old marinas with duff wiring. Our boat is very sensitive so is causing great problems, but they have put in dedicated cables back to a superyacht pod whilst they try to sort things out.

Winter rate for 6 months for 12-13 metres is 2200 Euros which includes all electric/water and wifi.
