Spall's at Sea, New series, Tonight 20.30

A blimming good half hour of proper boating in proper boat, bash crash and all at 8 knots courtesy of a nice Perkins diesel ..:)

Like the way the old chap nonchalantly surveyed the missing chunks of paint and carried on, remembering some recent posts on here, many forumites would be having a fit of the vapours put the boat on the hard for repairs instantly and be looking to sue somebody.

Great stuff: one of the finest actors of his generation - and he's a boater as well. Not sure that his description of a "flat-bottomed, seagoing barge" isn't a bit of a contradiction in terms, but, really, what's not to like? :)

Never seen it before, but just watched on the iplayer. Most amusing.. Love the way SWMBO just gets on with it.. Will be recording that me thinks :-)

The rope going round the prop fix was genius. Or a set up.

when he got his wife to fish in the rope I thought he said he'd lost a fender over the side, bl**dy big fender rope methinks twas a mooring rope loose

All in all, its compulsive viewing.

You have to remember that its TV for the masses - many people watching have no or little real interest in boating.

Interesting to see that he now has a Raymarine multifunction radar and an infra red CCTV.

Didn't quite understand why they were making so much about finding the entrance as the light fell, when they have GPS and electronic charting..

At the end of the day, Mr.Spall is a rather fine actor.

Nevertheless, its one of the few programmes that I fire the TV up for.

The best thing about it is that there is no McGrath or O'Briain. I hopr they paid teh RNLI for the use of the mooring & the launch of the slipway boat! :D

She paid for the free launch.............did you not hear she put a tenner in the RNLI box?

or was that free lunch:confused:

I think the free advertising/new photo on the wall will generate more trade, that will more than cover the price of the meal, not to mention the good jesture of money donated to the RNLI, everyone's a winner.

Probably being a bit nieve here but why is it being screened on BBC4 ?, did the first series not do too well with the ratings?, from the general conversations about the last series it was popular to non boating types too and I have to agree the show has a somewhat addictive quality which is hard to explain.

Not so much about the ports of call this episode, just a quick glimpse and it's on to the next destination, guess it's difficult as so many shows (coast etc) do the same kind of tour but without the humour, personally I cant wait to tune in for the next episode.

Not in a million years, those that see the photo are already there spending money, they will not see the photo then think they must spend more.

How about the folks that didn't even know the pub existed prior to Tim & shane's visit? they will sureley seek it out next time their passing, granted it won't sell any more to the folks who already go there anyway, just free advertising that there is a nice beach side pub, celeb visitors or not people now know it's there and will visit.

Or to put it differently, if you were in the area on holiday and wanted a nice beach side pub to relax where would you think to look first?
