Hello all. I finally figured out how to post, I think!!! Looking for opinions on the southerly 100 and moody 31 as a first sail boat. Really like the idea of swing keel on the southerly, no aft cabin though.

Welcome aboard.
Do you think you would find a swing keel useful? It could be irrelevant if you don't need to use a drying mooring or go creek crawling etc. They do require a bit of additional maintenance. I have a swing keel myself, and ot allows me to dry the boat out near my house for antifouling etc, but at some point I am going to have to get her to a yard and drop the keel to check it.

I would also say that if you are considering these two boats, there must be dozens of others that should also be on your list.

Thank you for reply Kelpie. Always liked the moody and southerly came to my attention recently. I do visit places in my little rib that dry out around west Cork and plenty of little sandy islands around as well. Also like the inside steering as it can rain here as well!!!! I do know it can be costly to have keel serviced. Suppose I should be considering other makes.
