Southampton recommendations?

Saxon for lift, Ocean village to wait for the ship...

I was at Saxon this weekend and again has fantastic service from the yard team there. really happy to have a boat looked after by them.. I can say this now as i actually have no connection to MDL anymore and am just a happy customer.

Ocean village is generally used by the shipping companies as its close to the docks and easy to run boats around in lift order.

If it were me, i would stay in Southampton and move the boat down to Poole just before shipment. Poole is an interesting choice from a shipping perspective and we use the port fairly regularly for our cargoes as it offers minimal deviation for vessels going through the channel and the port charges are low in comparison to Southampton. The down side is the draft restrictions on berths are pretty low (6 meters if i recall) so you are restricted on the size of vessel you can put in. we also have to work around the ferry schedules as the adjacent berths need to be clear for us to operate.

Thanks Doug. I hadn't really considered waiting until we were in Mallorca. My theory being that its nice to have a fresh start when we get there and it will take me a while to get to 'know the ropes'.
Its good to know that costs are competitive though..

Black antifouling... do you have a favourite brand?.... or is the most important thing simply that it needs to be black? Thanks again..R

I know it as International Micron 77 but I believe it has been superseded to something like Micron 88. JFM was a user of the product and without doubt will be able to throw some light on the matter.

As you are aware Steve Hookings and his team at steve@yachtguardianage.com, tel 0034 687 911 595 look after all servicing/repairs and cleaning of my boat, so I tried to speak to him to get the latest spec.

The line was very poor but he suggests you contact him and he will run through the various options on all the available makes to enable you to make a decision.

One thing he did say was it would be a waste of money to anti foul in the UK and then have the boat out of the water during the 3 week transit.

i would expect using ships gear or by springing the ship out and lifting from mobile crane.

they have a couple of mobile quay cranes in poole but depends on berth used.
