'Brian from Le Tonkinois'..... Yes, a stalwart. An institution. I buy something or other from him every time...

That reminds me. I buy a fuel-transfer 'Jiggle pump' tube every year. I must have a dozen, now, hidden away somewhere.... for I can never find one when I go looking!

'Spect I'll be there on Friday 15th.

In the good old days we could r/v at the YBW Pavilion, to cadge 'frosties' from Richard Shead and share grumbles. That all stopped with the new management with their SOH Failure Mode. I Blame It On Brexit..... :ROFLMAO:

KDD Powercentre may be worth a look. Seem to do custom panels as well as direct/updated replacement panels for Westerlies and Sealine. Always found them very helpful, knowledgable and friendly.
Now I’ve been on the website and they have a very good range of panels advertised. So either it’s an old site or they are missing out as I’ve never seen any sign of their panels anywhere. Fingers crossed.

KDD is @halcyon that I mentioned in post 7.

I know somebody from the forum did not pay for some kit that he made for them. Perhaps that is why he has not posted since 2021.

KDD made a super switch panel for me. Would be worth an email or a call to see if he is still making them.

Did you see my post #9?
Just checking in case you missed it - Brian Wards will make whatever you want - I have had bespoke stuff done by them and have been very happy with what they do.

That is a great shame on a number of fronts and not least because @halcyon used to make very informative and helpful posts.

I will be at the show every day, on either the Westerly stand or the Konsort in the marina. The normal pattern is the boat until about 11.30 and the stand from 2 to 3 or later. If you come at a different time and want to meet have a word on either place and they will ring me so I can arrange it. This year I am lucky enough to have Concerto in Ocean Village and if anyone wants to come and see her I am happyto do this just after the show closes.

Just returned from the Opening Day. Brill wall-to-wall sunshine. Big grins - except in Ocean Hall, when the a/c went off for some hours!

Got some great guidance from guru Paul Lees, Paul Dyer's 'prentice' at Marlow Ropes, the team at Jimmy Green, and top techies at MarineScene.

Among the notable products - Jeanneau 30OD Scow. And Ould Brian with his Le Tonkinois tins.... an institution, both.

This is the first SIBS I've been to where the security staff outnumbered the exhibitors. Notable among the 'officers' of the security persuasion was 'staff sergeant' Dionne.
We met at the ice cream van where she was putting in advance orders for closing time. In the good ol' days that would have been at the Guinness Stand.....

O tempora. O mores!

Nice day at the show. Nice to meet a few people on the stands. Got some goods leads for upholstery replacement and good advice from Hudson marine. Met the team from Ardent training based in Tobermory who were super efficient when I did my Dayskipper theory. Looked at an Beneteau Oceanis 34 without add ons. I seam to recall it being Arround 220,000 without a chart plotter. Not totally convinced it’s VFM. But nice chap.. Got as close to driving a Bentley as I ever will do all in a great day.

Glad to hear the show is good.

My last visit was poor and I never returned as a result.

I ended up going to Seaworks more often.

Now I have info I can use to re-think ... glad many people enjoyed it.

Good for yachting / boating - whatever one wishes to call it, too.

So which sailing boats are worth a look-I have my free tickets so will probably attend but apart from the usual Hanse or Bav any that stand out in the 40ft range ? I recall viewing southerly and being impressed in previous years but clearly not a boat for others given sales . What is the westerly sea lord of today?

Met steveeasy and another forumite today. It felt fairly quiet for a first day, but probably a lot busier tomorrow as it will remain sunny, however every day at the show after that has some rain forecast. My advice would be to come on a wet day as there will be far less people wandering round. Not looking forward my time being out in the rain on the Westerly Konsort on display that has crossed the Atlantic and back.

All the major manufacturers have boats here and most marine suppliers have stands. I saw the base price for an Oceanis 30.1 was £140,000, so with extras well over £200,000 - and you may have to wait several years for delivery and have annual prices increases in the contract. There are 2 chandlers, YouBoat and another, with a wide range of stock. Not yet had much time to walk round much of the show, but will try tomorrow and let you know my comments. Overall it looks quite good despite the likes of Force 4 and their competitors no longer attending.

Yes unbelievable why anyone would want an oceanis 30 at that price -our boat was the show boat in 2015 and based on the Bene price would be twice our price today boat inflation in 8 years seems incredible but I think back then it was around 1.35 euro exchange .

Think I must take an ordinary shirt with me one day so I can go aboard and get full details and price list. The prices of new boats is shocking plus the extended delivery time. You may be better of buying a slightly older boat and getting it fully renovated. It will cost less and be completed quicker.

My last visit was soured a little when I was not allowed to walk into a yacht on hard standing (cannot remember the make). The lady made it clear that inspite of the overshoes they provided and that I had donned, I was not welcome. I do not know why? I was clean shaven, dressed adequately, (I was carrying a freebie carrier bag - who wasn’t) I have always looked young for my age - perhaps she thought I had no funds?

I said nothing and left their yacht. The lady knew nothing about me, apart from my appearance.

I had a fantastic chat upon a different boat about rigging tension (that I thought was WAY too tight)

It cost me £7 entrance fee and that included parking IIRC

I assume prices have changed?

Same with my Bavaria 33 in 2015. £100k. Latest 34 (virtually same boat but with twin wheels) last year was just shy of £200k and less the fancy sails and a few other things not on mine was still £180k. Yes rate was 1.36. Actual cost to exchange was £58k plus my 15 year old ex charter 37 which originally cost £38k +VAT under a charter management deal.. 6 year's use and sold for over £90k.

Could not contemplate buying a new boat now - not that anything vaguely "normal" appeals.
