Anyone looking for a sailing buddy/crew. I am looking for a mentor preferably sailing out of Portsmouth, Chichester harbour or Southampton way to show me the ropes.

I have been sailing dinghy's for the past 5 years on inland waters with all the RYA certs and am now looking to move onto coastal sailing.

I have just complete my day skipper theory and VHF cert. Just lacking practical experience on tidal waters.

I'm 43, male, married, with a good sense of humour.

Not one to panic.

Very logical approach to problem solving.

Electrical and Plumbing contractor by trade, which means I'm hands on and not afraid to get stuck in!

So if your looking, get in touch.

Thanks For Looking

Gareth

Extra:-

I've asked myself would I meet up with someone I know absolutely nothing about? probably not, let alone let him on my yacht! So a little bit about myself.

With Sid Bosham comp.jpgA picture of my youngest son with me on a Hurley 20 last year in Bosham. (proof we actually had some sun)

I have lived in Farnham, Surrey for the past 6 years. I have no criminal convictions (not even a speeding ticket, well not for a few years anyway ;-)

I have been self employed for most of my working career.

My Dad (deceased) was a taxi driver and my Mum a nurse, so from a working class background. Although not stereo typical. I punch above my weight, my partner is a thoroughbred ;-)

I spent the majority of my childhood fishing at local lakes in Farnborough, which kept me out of trouble. Anyone combine sailing with fishing?

A motorcycle owner from the age of 16, that was until last year when I sold it and haven't replaced it (Yet!) I'm hoping sailing will fill the void.

I was brought up C of E, although I do not consider myself to religious that is unless the S***s about to hit the fan, then you may find me praying.

I have in the past carried out my own mechanical repairs to motorcycles and cars, I have changed clutches, head gaskets and even complete engines. Alas mechanics have changed in the past years, too many damn electronic sensors now. I have a couple of Seagul engines that I like to play with now.

My preferred socialising lubricant is red wine.

Forgot to say previously. I am happy to pay my share of cost involved, I am not looking for a free ride.

Thanks for reading my blurb

Gareth

Hi Gareth. I charter yachts for the weekend and go out sailing on the Solent, along the South Coast and across the Chanel. The crew and myself share the charter costs equally and contribute to the ships kitty to cover fuel, moorings and provisions ect.

I am a yacht master offshore with a commercial endorsement and have a reasonable amount of sailing experience.

If this interests you please let me know and I can send you further details. I live in Hamble and sail regularly at the Itchenor Sailing Club, so we could meet for a drink sometime if you wish.

Cheers Martin.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the reply and the offer. I have a couple of firm offers from this thread, even an offer of a round the island so fingers crossed on that front.

Chartering sounds expensive ;-) Please do send over some more details my email is in the first post.

Thanks Gareth

Hi Gareth.

I am pleased to hear you have received such a positive response to your thread.

I have had some brilliant voyages and days out with members of this Forum in the past.

I will e-mail you about my sailing scheme in the near future.

Cheers!
