Thanks. I love Yarmouth, it's my favourite Solent spot, the frisson of "will we / won't we" get in is part of its appeal. My previous boat took a few hours down tide to get there from Swanwick so if we didn't get in, and then faced an uptide slog to get back, there was a lot of cockpit noise. Current boat, less of an issue, just a wallet impact. So I was glad to get in and spend some money although I was dwarfed by my rafting partners. "We need a bigger boat" said Mrs Scala, after only 20 hours on this one. Back in a week or so.

Springs onto the centre cleat of the Squadron to stbd. I also deployed a bow shore line ahead to the pontoon out of sight to the right of the pic. When the V53 arrived we repeated the process with him.

So we had bow and stern breast lines onto the adjacent boats; springs fore and aft onto the adjacent boats; a stern line aft onto the pontoon; and bow shore lines. Fenders astern for luck.

Thanks for the explanation, I noticed that you are moored slightly further forward than the squadron this would also be my way, Ist time I have seen boats rafted up that way in uk marina ,saves everyone walking across your boats

Yes. Only works where a corner of two pontoons exists plus all boats need to have stern access. This was very good, they had quite a few in Yarmouth rafted like this. Mostly mobos but a few yachts mixed in.

We have been there like that a few times, you definitely need fenders on the stern as you will get pushed onto pontoon on the flood if you’re in the middle of the raft, nice sociable place to be for sundowners ?

You might also ask that the 'face masks madatory' signs are moved to where they can be seen when the doors are open and that the staff (politely of course rse) draw the attention of those ignoring them to them. Mind you seeing the rocket one bloke got from his wife for not wearing his 'but it's in my pocket' was quite amusing.

It is noticeable that the majority of males seem to believe that the rules are for someone else.

Not so good if you have a tender hanging off the stern or you don't want your stern facing the pontoon walkway, do you have a choice?

Booking is not really consistent with sailing and changes in the weather.
Just done a delivery from Far East Coast to Bristol Channel.
Total tosh with this booking bo$$ocks.

Marinas saying they are full when called from the breakwater, Spent 4 days in the only open refuge in Plymouth. Whilst the weather went orff. according to the owner, Then reduced to a one hit round the end and up the Channel.

Really pi$$ed off with the south coast marinas who think they are running hotels. Many off my list for future trips.

I tried to book Island Harbour last week (Tuesday) for last weekend, and was advised to book no later than the Wednesday of the week before, so I booked for this Saturday and got a space. Cowes YH are operating mostly on a first come first served. Yarmouth only have a few bookable berths with most (~200) first come first served. A friend of mine reckons it is because those using their boats for a holiday are massively increased and no one is going foreign. He wanted to go to the west country and found no room anywhere. Even his MDL freedom berthing was being refused at Brixham. He ended up with a couple of days in Brighton (plenty of room) and then day running from his home berth.

In fairness the point that the average yottie is going to struggle to guarantee his or her movements when on passage week(s) in advance is a good one.

Its one thing booking some time in advance when the trip is from, say, the Hamble to Beaulieu but another if going to Weymouth who will cheerfully keep the money if adverse weather prevents one arriving.

No idea if they are still doing so - but Brighton marina's website is saying they will only accept a maximum of 10 visitors which for a marina of that size seems to be madness!

Again! They seem to have been doing that for at least three seasons. I've seen riots better organised than that place's maintenance.

Last year we woke up to find the electricity supply had been turned off, on investigation they were also in the process of removing a section of pontoon leaving us and the other boats no walk ashore access for a couple of days. Neadless less to say noone had said a word, including (apparently) to the marina manager.
