So we have a few days on the boat from tomorrow , tried to book some of the usual suspects, i.e., bembridge , cowes, island harbour, weymouth, yarmouth, chichester etc and all rammed !. What puzzles me is where have all these boats left, is the Hamble empty?. BTW anyone got any ideas for a couple of chilled out days ? (y) .

Quite a bit of space in Yarmouth really... taxi moored on a free finger berth beside us... another free finger opposite us where residents boat out of the water... they would get you in a spot if you came over Andy.

Many of these places insist you book, so with the hottest weather of the year coming up, they are fully booked. Unfortunately, you don't have to tell your marina you are leaving an empty berth until you are actually departing, if at all, hence many marinas don't yet know if they will have any space.

Personally, I would look for somewhere nice to anchor.

We are keeping our new (to us) boat on the south coast for a month to do a bit of exploring. Looking online and having spoken with a couple of places on the IOW it seems that they only take bookings for a small number of boats and it is then first come, first served on the day. Have I got this right?

Probably, but everyone is feeling their way. No one wants to turn people away, but equally management have to juggle residents, visitors, staff, reputation. Etc. Keep trying the phones you may be lucky.

I tried to book Island Harbour last week (Tuesday) for last weekend, and was advised to book no later than the Wednesday of the week before, so I booked for this Saturday and got a space. Cowes YH are operating mostly on a first come first served. Yarmouth only have a few bookable berths with most (~200) first come first served. A friend of mine reckons it is because those using their boats for a holiday are massively increased and no one is going foreign. He wanted to go to the west country and found no room anywhere. Even his MDL freedom berthing was being refused at Brixham. He ended up with a couple of days in Brighton (plenty of room) and then day running from his home berth.

Last week we booked for E Cowes two nights, and then successfully also got berthed at Yarmouth for a couple of days. All very good. But talking to other people it’s very clear that demand is higher than you might have expected. Rafted at Yarmouth but not E Cowes.

I thought our stay in Yarmouth was well managed given the circumstances, we were med-style stern-to rafted on the seaward end of the Red pontoon. People all very sensible, WCs and showers quiet. But harbour was busy, there was maybe a few spaces available by the end of the evening. Almost full.

I’ll pass that on at next Yarmouth board, thanks.
