With the demise of Ampair and the subsequent purchase of Ampair IP by SeaMap the spares are all in Singapore. and come at a very high cost.

I'm searching for a source of spare brushes. the existing ones are 16mm x 7mm x 5mm, and are marked MC12 which i believe may be the grade of copper - carbon they are made of. They come complete with a spring surroundng a wire that connects the brush to a folded plate that sits under the screw cap.

I have spent some while searching for anything resembling a source but havent yet found anything that looks like a 'shop' with somehting to match what i need.

Firstly can anyone confirm that i'm correct in my uderstanding what MC12 refers to, or put me right. and secondly any pointers in the direction of anywhere that might be able to supply.

thanks
Dave

Is it? OK. I can't imagine that a wind generator is a particularly onerous application for a brush, so I'm not sure the OP need worry too much about the grade.
Probably not. They are only the brushes on the pole aren't they. The generator itself is a brushless permanent magnet machine isn't it?

Not sure but I think MC12 is a carbon copper mix for low resistance and slow speed use like this.

My caution comes from discovering that there is potential for open circuit voltage beng as high as 200v in a blow. I thought it would be a) easy to find something that's an exact match for size and b) any old brush will do, but as I read more I get more concerned that an exact match will be needed.
But I'm learning as I go , and any insight into the physics would also be helpful.
Matching down is entirely possible so thanks for that suggestion.
Cheers

If it smells it's chemistry, if it moves it's biology, if it's broken it's technology but if it simply does not work it's physics . That's all you need to know about physics

VicS is right it is a grade of carbon.

These are made from mixtures composed of amorphous carbon powders, natural ... constituents in well defined quantities, agglomerated with appropriate ... Equally a part of the metal graphite group are those brushes (EG and A) ..... MC 12. MK 75 - MK 75E. CG 75. BAKELITE-GRAPHITE. BG 62 - BG 417 - BG 404 - LFC 62.
