I have a Simpson-Lawrence S-L 400/SL401 sea toilet fitted to the boat when I bought it and do not know how old it is and have never have been happy with it.
I do not know if it is a cheap or expensive toilet but plan to replace it.
Size is 210mm h x 419mmL x 419mm w
Any suggestions/recommendations to a simple to use economic reliable manual sea toilet

Lavac but check the installation instructions first as the correct looping of the inlet and outlet pipes is important for it to work correctly.

Not sure if there are two versions still available in the Uk. There is now only one available in the US. An electric version is still available though I think.

Lavac user manual

Not sure if the SL 400 is still available. If it is then it is very expensive and a poor bit of kit for the money by all accounts. Spares should still be available. The 400 is the very shallow bowl type. The 401 has/had a deeper bowl IIRC. I reckon at 210mm high its the 400. Most are now 300 or so mm high

keep it simple Jabsco

[/ QUOTE ] You cannot call a Jabsco simple compared with a Lavac. Cheaper maybe but in view of the problems you could encounter not so cheerful.

There's only one thing more simple than a Lavac but that has the advanatge that you can use it in the cockpit and still keep a good watch while having a dump /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Uncomfortable to sit on for long though, especially the wire loops for the handle but it never gets blocked. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had an SL400 toilet which I got very familiar with.

On a two week holiday the record was to dismantle and rebuild 3 times on the pontoon to the amusements of the french locals.

I skipped it and fitted a Jabsco manual pump out with a large bowl, same toile t fitted to next boat in 10 years never touched them just add a little olive or sunflower oil from time to time.

Keep it simple.

I had an SL400 in the heads of my Halcyon 23. It was the only one that would fit in that confined space. The depth is the problem - do you have space for the Lavac unit? If so go for it - the one I have in the current boat is great........but......

Despite all the criticism, once i got a spares kit for my SL400 and renewed the washers and valves it worked fine.

The spares kit is around £40 and is now available although SL went out of business years ago. What's the problem? If it's not pumping right, renewing the washers and valves is a cheap option, you know it will fit back in and use the existing piping, and believe me, they work fine, even if they are not as elegant an engineering solution as the Lavac.
