I,ve been advised ,to mount the outdrive on my project so the cavitation plate is at least 2inchs underwater, this no problem my question is does it matter how deep the leg runs in the water ,as i,am thinking of mounting it so the center line of the drive shaft from engine is only 2.5inchs above waterline.???.

Just a quicky before breakfast
regards and thanks as ever,T,b.

interesting question. my sonic outdrive has the engine shaft perhaps 12 inch above the static waterline but when the boat squats and with waves it frequently gets wet all over. doesnt suffer.

however, the sonic does not lift at right angles to the transom. so you need to mount it high enough up for the leg to clearwater when lifted up - or at best you will get lots of weed growth and possible other problems too. and you dont want it so low down in the water that it grounds first when drying out.

why not ask sonic - they are the experts, not me or anyone else on the forum. tel 02087150100
