Something to watch on the clyde 28th July

Kip's sister station was Peterhead I believe. It was supposed to take the gas that came ashore at St Fergus and no one had any use for. By the time the station was built the oil companies realised there was money in ethylene and they built the plant at Mossmorran in Fife which took all the gas and left the power station with only the oil option and as the price had just gone through the roof it went the way of Kip or nearly so. It got intermittent use in the winters until the Miller gas field came along and the whole thing got a big refubishment and two small gas fired units which took the bass if the main unit went offline for any reason. There were crippling penalties for not taking the gas which made the extra units a must. I did some work on the computers that were used to monitor the station prior to the upgrade.

It's been handy to swing a compass against. I will be pleased to see it go as its just a carbuncle on an otherwise pleasing skyline.

Generations of submariners too! As Ship Control Officer of the Watch running on the surface I must have fixed off that chimney a gazillion times!

I remember it being built and the navigators of both the 3rd and 10th squadrons vied with each other to plot the most accurate position before droggy produced the official chart correction
