Had a great day today, went for a run to Alum bay and anchored up for a sandwich and cupper, 2 lady's need there tea!!!
Over lunch we had been talking about boats being attacked by big fish etc and having to abandon to life rafts.

Well while winding the Anchor up, I thought the winch sounded under a bit of strain, but the chain was strait down.

Bugger we may have hooked something.....

to date I have hooked, a cable, a chain, heavy duty type, and a rock or too, along with the normal lumps of mud or weed.

but this was new to me,

At first I thought I had hooked a fish, a big one, about 8 foot of which I could see, It looked like its jaw was biting the chain.

It took me a few heart stopping seconds to realise it was not moving..

I wound the anchor up a bit more and realised it was....

with a split in the end,

that was what the anchor was caught in,

and looked like the jaws.

it was up high enough that a quick ahead loosened the chain from the log and we were able to head back.

So be warned, it you anchor in 5 ish meter of water 3 hours before low
water about 100m from the jetty where they do the bay water tours you mite find it too.

I did get asked if it could have been an undiscovered wreck. It could have been LOL
Does that make it more exciting.

swmbo just reminded me.
In 86 we were anchored in the Strait
Little 17ft dory with a cuddy
She scrambles forward to retrieve the hook.
'Im strugglin go forward a bit ' she shouts
'I am, stop muckin about' I replies
Anyway, swmbo does the bizz.

'It's got a load of weed on it-- Oh No it's a b---dy big Lobster'!

'Get the fecker aboard' I shouts.

Anyway, that's another storey for another time.

Yep
Cables chains rock or two mud an weed, that's the Norm

Yoh Jules-- take care , you never know!
You could end up hooking a Basking Shark
See Rushies post on the subject:eek:
