Brilliant photo and well done for your first pic on the forum. What a mess! Thank goodness there wasn't anyone on board at the time! There was obviously something amiss with the thrusters for the peniche to have driven into the visitors pontoon.

The yacht is a total write off. The pontoon seems to be a write off as well!

If, like many boats out there at the minute, it's up for sale, I think the owners paryers have been answered.

No gel coat repair will bring that back!..

Yes a skilled job driving one of those but they do have a bloody great bow engine, driving the thruster. Perhaps that failed.

Interesting comments on barges and bowthrusters. Some have them, some not. We are definately in the "not" category, and it does make me chuckle to see - and hear - all the tiny hire boats thrusting their way into and out of a berth - where half an ounce of seamanship is all that is needed.
It would interest me to know which barge was involved - anyone know?

Nobody seems to know the name. I spoke to a few people, who knew it was a barge but no names mentioned.

Interesting comments about bow thrusters. I understand that the deflection on the rudder and the shape of the hull makes them manoeuvrable but I have even more admiration for those that drive them without thrusters. I pride myself on boat handling and do not have a thruster on my Moody 42. That would scare me to death:eek:

It could really do with a couple of springs. The bow line needs to be taken in a few feet as well.
Whoever berthed that didn't do a very good job.

Surprised she's still afloat to be honest

A pal of mine had a similar, catastrophic collision.

He was alongside at a Marina in Falmouth, when he heard a load of shouting and screeching. Nipping up from below he saw a gert tug heading directly towards him. Jumping onto the pontoon he watched the tug crush his Hurley 24 which sank like a stone in front of his eyes!

The only things he had were what he stood up in, but as he was unhurt I guess he was lucky - in a way.

Is this afloat or is the keel resting on the bottom and keeping it up?

If the former (as it looks to me -presumably it was floating along the quay before the collision), I am absolutly staggered.

The 92 year old ketch Helena lost her bowsprit and being semi rolled has damaged stanchions. She's now at PN waiting to be craned out for inspection?
The British couple living aboard the small barge seen in Digbys photo were a bit shaken, in both ways! Helena was berthed between them and Jeanneau. Heresay has it that there was a misunderstanding between barges pilot and captain. Jeanneau has impaled pontoon with her rudder stock and it is the pontoon floats which are preventing her from filling....
