Solution to the wake problem

Hate to drop a serious note in here, but don't forget the fishermen drifting around in little Mobos, they tend to have very low freeboard & narrow beam so are especially susceptible to short steep wash & can't even turn into it.

Ah - they'll be the ones who go out fishing in open boats from my marina in a F5/6 whilst I'm safely secured in my berth, then...

They can prob'ly stand a bit of wash as they're often out in 5' seas without a problem/care in the world.

Another option os to always travel in pairs so that we could pass either side. Provided that speed and distance are balance the wakes would cancel out.

I have done this with a pal on a corperate day...... yachtie skipper knew we where coming and was prepared. we thought it was so much fun when the rooster caused by the two wakes went straight over the back of the boat that we should go round again un fortunatly I hadnt seen the southampton harbour launch the other side of said raggie my partner in crime had and was franticly trying to call...... i was way to busy lining my self up for the perfect pass to answer the phone, my buddy realising this decided to continue as planned ( safety in number and all that) as i cleared the yacht and saw mr harbour master it was too late to do anything other than buzz him as well only his door was open and they got splashed a bit............................ luckily they know my partner in crime well and saw the funny side of it.

Wake, what wake

Anyway, if we didn't have this wake thing ther wouldn't be anything to photograph while out on the boat,eh?:D

Well we had a chance yesterday to test the theory.

1) Big boats with blue flappy flag things refused to notice us.
2) Littler ones seemed to like us if we passed on the side that the stick was leaning away from. Lots of waves from them.
3) In between sailing and motoringg ones seemed to like us best as the crew standing up by the stick always waved a lot. They seemed to be a bit unused to boats though as they all were clinging on to the stick as we went past.
4) Anchored raggies got quite animated as we came past and I'm pretty sure were indicating that we should come round again

All in all I felt the experiment was a success as we got a lot more waves.

The container ships still ignored us and the Red jet wanted to join in :D

Some of the bigger boats out doing demos from SIBS also seem to have adopted a similar approach but trying to neutralise their wakes by going round and round.

Well done Jokerboat. Was very nice of you to try to help them out. :D

Just trying to imprive the entente cordiale of the Solent :)

I even tried it on a jet ski that was sitting waiting for his mate off Dock Head,

Miserable git didn't even wave let alone call out a cheery greeting. Didn't quite manage to get him to fall off though

YAWN, hmmm, ZZZzzzzz . . . . . .

It's getting boring & silly now - even if it wasn't in the first place. A comedy sketch should be short & to the point, not be repeated endlessly with limited minor variations. :(

Don't you have anything interesting to say?

Come on Searush, it is only a bit of fun.

Raggie/Mobo fights are always a bit silly aren't they? Still fun though.

Yeah, I know that. But this isn't really developing - its just getting repetitive. I'm bored so I'm off to play elsewhere - you'll probably be quite pleased to hear that I guess. :D

Ta ta.

Sorry to hear that you're bored. Never mind, we'll try to find something else to entertain you. Got to be more interesting than the quality of food at SIBS though. :o
