Us mobo pilots are ever being criticised by those strange people that get nose bleeds travelling at speeds higher the 6 knots. The issue appears to be the amount of wake that we generate.

Well I think that the problem is that we pass too far away from them, thus giving the wake time to build. If we were to increase speed and pass at a distance of less than say 2 metres, the wake would not have time to form properly, To further alleviate the problem I calculate that the faster that we pass the better to further throw the wake astern of them?

Another option os to always travel in pairs so that we could pass either side. Provided that speed and distance are balance the wakes would cancel out.

I've not tested the theory "live" yet.

Waddya think?

Will do. I reckon a few trials around the mouth ot the Hamble would do the job. Plenty of varying sizes and shapes to test there.

Genius! So simple and yet so right.

Without wanting to add to the mobo/raggie age old argument, I'm very aware of our consequences as fast Mobo's. However, raggies seem to travel in so many different directions that it's sometimes almost impossible to pass them giving a wide enough berth. Lots of the time they are converging and you have no choice but to pass close by and then they start shaking their heads which makes my blood boil.
Other raggies go at 3 knots in the middle of a river blcoking your way past if another boat is approaching and if you pass close they shake their bloody heads again and stare at you as if you've just landed from mars.........

Rant over and out.

BTW I sailed almost as much as I've MOBO'd so I'm not taking sides.

Solution to that is to wear dark glasses so that youcan't see them.

I find giving a cheery toot on the horn as I pass makes me feel better. You'll have to get a louder horn to be heard above the volume of the stereo at full chat, once you've fitted the extra bass speakers etc of course.

Once you're on the plane it's undoubtedly true that the faster you go, the less wake you make. I have therefore decided to spec my boat up with twin 3,000hp gas turbines and surface drives at considerable expense to myself, and will try to ensure that i'm always doing over 80 knots when I pass within 2 metres of sailing yachts, and I bet I still don't get any thanks from them...

Cor, can't wait to see that:D

Cracking post! :D

Nice one jokerboat, just waiting for Sea Rush to jump in. Always thought that name was wishful thinking. Maybe Sea Slow.

Sorry Sea Rush could not resist given the post :)

At that distance I reckon that with a quick helm movement I should be able to give you a really good close up of my cranse iron! :D

What bait? What hook?

Sirs, I fart in your general direction (please read with a French accent)

I understand that many of your poorly designed craft cannot be steered at slow speeds and that when planing, wash is less than when you are forcing just above the natural displacement speed. Wash is just wasted fuel and I'm so glad you have the money to burn in the current economic climate, just sorry you don't have the sense to see it.

I agree that my boat is poorly named, but I'm blowed if I will spend the 60 odd squid to change it - that's 3 or 4 reasonable bottles of Malt (or one damn good one.)

Nibble Nibble - on the malt front, going on a boys week next week and have invested in some mighty fine liquid gold :) Cannot wait
