Solent Tunnels

Just watched this interesting video on attempts to dig not one but three tunnels under the Solent.

If the floating bridge FB6 is anything to go and IWCc involved might break down or flood surely. If you think I’m being cruel the latest fiasco are the roads of Ventnor which ranks up there with the ryde marina,ryde ice rink,westridge pool,medina traffic lights improvements loved by the island taxi drivers in Newport I’m told etc etc.

I have explained away to my work colleagues that my frequent visits to the IoW are on account of being able to use the tunnel rather than boat ownership

There is a technical issue which could not be solved in the tunnel designs - need to find a means of changing time zone (decade) mid tunnel. A Doctor was consulted but his solutions were deemed impractical, as they all involved small blue boxes.

It’s all right Dunedin they have st Mary’s in place already plus the new traffic lights to block the roads around the hospital.

Of course, there is a tunnel under Southampton Water, between Fawley and Chilling. Said to be 10 feet in diameter, and was built to carry electric cables from the old Fawley power station. Experience with this tunnel may have persuaded authorities that a road or rail tunnel to IoW would be impractical.

They could just hand out denim jackets and clip on pony tails at the halfway point.
