I have a solent stay along with a working jib and storm jib that I'm playing around with so I know how they set up/work.

When I hoist the working jib, it looks like the sail will foul the furled Genoa sheets when perhaps on a broad reach. What do others do with the Genoa sheets? I thought I may have to remove them but then how do I secure the sail from flapping around as the clew is about 15ft high up.

I have not actually used them yet so it may just be a storm in a tea cup and won't really foul anything under real use, just kind of looks that way from playing around.

I also presume other similar set ups lead the sheets through the same jib cars as the Genoa sheets, just on top of them?

Thanks

I have 2 sets of jib cars and two sets of sheets. My sheets are 14mm and would not go through the same car. When I hoist the (hanked) solent jib, I use large carbine spring hooks permanently secured to the lower lifelines at my foremost stanchion to clip the furled genoa sheets into. This keeps them down and out of the Solent jibs way, but still pulls them aft to keep some tension on the furler. Easy to clip in and release as I am on deck anyway dealing with the sail and halyard at the mast.

So far so good, my problems are at the other end where I have double blocks for the pair of sheets on both sides but only a single Lewmar clutch for each side which has to be rethreaded to use the winch. Not a good job in adverse conditions. Working on a better solution there.

Ah good tip that, thanks a lot (y)

Think outside the box

This is not an answer to the problem but may spark something in your mind.

DIY Rigging Hacks - Practical Sailor

The article is a summation of a previous article I wrote and seems to minimise some of the detail. None of it is very clever - just solutions I came to over two problems 'similar' to yours.

If you want more detail - ask

Knowledge is of no value unless it is shared - but I don't know your yacht nor what you don't know :)
