Thanks to everyone who offered advice when I posted about blogging, I am glad to say my blog is born. My aim is to obviously share my photos (some of which I am very proud of having taken) and show Southampton Water, the Port of Southampton and The Solent in action.
Everyone likes to see photos of their boat on the water so hopefully I can reunite a photo of a boat with their owner. I'd also be very happy for other amateur photographers and sailors to send in pics or even write a blog post or two!

Please don't be too harsh but if you have any ideas or suggestions I'd be really happy to try and develop it. I particularly enjoyed this morning's breakfast post using the Diablo so think even though it's a blog about the Solent an odd post about cooking in a small space might be of interest too?

Your breakfast is impressive, given the time and weather to do it; I've married people on the strength of far less impressive offerings ! :)

My standard ' under way ' snack as a bachelor used to be a couple of Jacobs crackers with a slice of Kraft ' plastic cheese ' between; this worked perfectly for years until a chum even less cooking skilled than me did these, cross Channel - I found my teeth weren't quite meeting, I hadn't told him to remove the plastic film...

I never let him forget it.

Nowadays any cooking aboard is to a much higher standard, the chums I sail with now always rustle up a ' full English ' even if underway, we take turns and both boats have decent gymballed cookers with pan clamps.

Well done, I'll add it to my bookmarks.

So far I've not been brave enough to go public with my blog - perhaps one day when I set off on my adventures.

I must get her to post pics of the barbecue of doom, a home buklt job from a jam boiler that hangs by a chain from the boom, swinging wildly when a wash hits us. It was entertaining the other night with the boom tent up, and the fillet steak and calamari hypnotically oscillating back and forth as it cooked while we imbibed fine ale.

Sounds like that should make an interesting piece for the Coastguard helo blog :encouragement:

Love the Kraft cheese story and thank you for your kind comment about my breakfast - I shall have to do a few more posts about other good meals we have had on board and the BBQ solentclown has made :)

MrsSolentClown,

the vicious alien I briefly married was a vegetarian, so partly to get in her good books, largely because I hate cruelty to animals, I became one too, however...

On our first weekend on the boat we were at the Folly pontoons, she stuck her head of the forehatch " there's a horrible smell of frying bacon out here ! " ----------' MMM ! '

Dear Mrssolentclown
You have made my day with the aforementioned Spam post on your blog. This is the ammunition I have needed for years as proof to my Galley Admiral in the pleasures of Spam.
Result!
Wish me luck..........

GeeW - I did post the link to recipes for Spam and I am indeed eager to see if Spam is as versatile an ingredient as the makers suggest. Good luck with convincing the Galley Admiral that Spam is a must have ingredient! Let us know how you get on :)

The best Spam we have found is the black pepper one which we got a two tin pack for £1 in the Pound shop. There's also a reasonably priced multi pack of Spam in Farm Foods should anyone be in a rush to go out and buy Spam. :)

Following negotiations, the Galley Admiral has agreed (on this occasion) to allow sea trials of Spam which are to be conducted this very weekend.
Weekend's shaping up well...
p.s. We might even see Seajet if he's afloat?
