The water in The Hamble has had that bitter drain smell a few times over the last couple of years. One day it was quite overpowering.

This is not new news. 20 odd years ago, Southampton university I think it was, built a working model of the tidal system of the Solent to see why the hamble was always dirty. They used a dye to track the progress of the dye. The result was that no matter where in the solent the dye was injected it always finished up in the Hamble!!
