Hi All,

Wife and I would like to do our day skipper in the solent this summer - we've recently moved to the Fareham area and are a little overwhelmed with the choice of RYA schools. Would anyone be kind enough to provide us with some personal recommendations?

Best Wishes,
Andy

There are a lot of good sailing schools in the Solent area. Back in 2006 I did my Day Skipper with Hamble School of Yachting and a few years later my Coastal Skipper with British Offshore Sailing School (BOSS). Back then both were very good, but I can't comment on what they might be like today as the quality of many courses are very instructor specific.

However, one sailing school I have had more recent experience with (and it was a very positive experience) was Sailing Logic. They have some excellent instructors. I also know of several people who are returning customers of Sailing Logic, not only for their RYA courses but also their race training.

Thankyou - Much Appreciated. We'll check them out and see if they fit!

If you are in Fareham you might wander down to Haslar marina or suchlike and ask at the marina offices There are also advertising boards for a few schools there who have a local presence so might be another source of info.

Thanks ashtead - I'll wonder in and see who is popular.

Appreciate the recommendation Jasperll - Definitely local! We'll check them out.

As a family of four, we had a great experience doing our Comp Crew with Hamble School of Yachting on one of their boats and would recommend Ian Perryman as an excellent instructor who I understand often works with them.

We are now doing our Day Skipper as a four on our own boat with Will Spencer at White Dot Sailing and he is also excellent.

I haven't used but have heard good reports of Bacchus. Also if you ask at the lightship at Haslar they will recommend an experienced single handed who runs the businesswith his other half I gather but also does daily instruction I was told yesterday . I cannot recall his name but well known single hander.
