Hi all we are toying with the idea of a larger rib than our 3.4 tender , for the use in and around the Solent ,as we are based in East Cowes we find that most places in and around the Solent are too close to warrant taking our main boat ,and the tender is a touch to small ,although we have been both ends of the Solent in it, looking at ribs around 5.5 to 6m so we can take home regular when not in use , question is is there places that you can slip the boat and leave car and trailer for a weekend and still be there when you return happy to pay
,

On the mainland Eastlands Boatyard near top of Hamble.
Secure yard quarterly storage charges they will also launch and recover for you. No ferry charges to get to Island and sit behind ferry when rough
Did it for many years with a 7m open boat.

Mercury marina have a slipway and plenty of parking, was one of the cheapest slips I ever used when I had RIB

Loads of ribs seem to launch from behind Haslar marina in Gosport and leave their trailors there but are you looking for space on the island as I would be speaking to the outboard guys in Bembridge maybe for ideas unless you are looking to escape the island with your trailer? I am sure there must be loads of places in Chi harbour as East head seems to be rib city in the summer.

Thanks for the reply,s , just to confirm looking at leaving car and trailer on mainland , going to have a ride around and check places mentioned , good to see there are quite a few to chose from,

There used to be a web page called boatlaunch that listed slipways..dont know if that is still the right name.
Hythe slip is very tidal and you will pay MDL alot for boat storage. The cheaper slipways will either have a poor slipway or poor parking and limited storage. Just to mention..and it wont be cheap..how about dry stack..Lymington?
Northney has one of the best slipway set ups but again not cheap and right at one end if the Solent. You do get Chichester harbour to slowly cruise through..speed limit.

That's one of the main reasons I used Mercury slip as believe it or not was one of the most sensibly priced, it's a bit restricted by tide but never a problem. Road access to M27 is also good

I do wonder if road access to Hamble is so good now as every time I drive past Tesco on the to the paying Itchen bridge it seems the traffic gets worse there ? Or is it just my imagination

I don’t go there so often now but think it’s same with everywhere now getting busier, I see you are in Gosport, I drove there a couple of times and found that a bit slow going, not sure if it’s still the same, a lot depends on time of day I guess

If you are willing to go down the Itchen, there is Crosshouse slipway, large and easy to use, under the bridge. Parking is cheap, and there is Crosshouse trailers next door. For a nominal fee they should lock your rib in their compound if you ask nicely.
Also across the river but still under the Itchen bridge is a small private slipway with a secure fenced yard for storage for precisely your kind of need. They will assist in getting you in and out of the water too.

Location is going to also factor high up, as we travel 140 miles each way not wishing to be to far of track, happy to trailer and slip as done loads , not wanting to dry stack or permanent berth as only going to be used on accational weekends,
5.5m length, getting advice not really big enough for Solent which is a shame because not wanting bigger ,plus that's the size of the one we like, work in progress at present, could be a good thing that the one we were buying, seller pulled out .

easiest to go through Lowford, then down portsmouth road to the bridge from Hamble. Tesco rbout is a nightmare
