The fact that I am an electrical numpty will not need reiterating to anyone who has seen my previous posts, but still I soldier on...

A move to a powerless mid-river pontoon means I need to find some energy. Only worried about the domestic bank - 2x200ah agms. To start I have bought a cheapy Biard 100w semi-flexible solar panel which I hope will be sufficient to top off the batteries between visits - I plan to use the generator to get some bulk charge into them when necessary. Anyway... Nooka previously had a windgen and has the wiring including a charge regulator, dump resistors and a stop switch to halt the windmill. I am experimenting at the moment, and may go wind myself if solar doesn't work out/needs supplementing. So the question is, while I am experimenting, could I just wire the PV panel to the old windgen circuit? How much would I expect to lose twixt panel and battery. I should add that I have everything I need for a dedicated pv installation including an mppt regulator, but if using the existing would work well enough, then I might just try that first. I am guesssing that no harm would come from trying?

Btw. I have also just received my forum burgee (thanks Henry - very handsome), so if anyone passing sees it flying from Nooka on our new berth on Gin's midriver pontoon on the Beaulieu River and fancies stopping by for a beer, I have just stocked up for the season!

Now I'm never going to get any wiring advice! :-)

So long as the wind gen controller is able to handle the 100watts from your solar panel it should work ok with no more loss than from the wind gen. Id not operate the stop switch though.
