Solar panel wires was shocking

The wire inside was juat a few strands of brittle copper wire. At least I now know I do not need to buy a new panel. I will wire my 4mm solar wire direct by soldering.

I would forward those pics to Lowenergie, I believe them to be a reputable company (they certainly have been in my dealings with them) - they need to know how their products are lasting, or what the failure points are.

I had the same some years ago with a victron panel...very frustrating at the time because I suspected everything, including my sanity, until I found the issue. Panel is still working well with my quick bit of soldering.

I can't see the fine wire OP speaks of however it is customary for Chinese to use the lightest possible wire to save cost of copper. Now fine wire may not detract from performance very much in terms of volt drop but is far less robust in terms of corrosion and long life.
I bought a set of security cameras from home. Cable supplied with connectors looked impressive. But the wire is just too tiny corrodes and breaks easily in weather and a devil to try to solder to for repair. Grrrrr ol'will

I had the negative solar panel plug/ connector fizz away inside.. no idea why and it was under cover

Looks like it has had moisture, even if just moist air. That looks like some sort of electrolytic reaction. Just a thought no doubt the people who know will confirm or deny. 🥴
Don't say it was sealed and moisture couldn't get in. I have enough experience of electrical fittings in a marine environment to know that it can and will get in. :p

Yes that is what it looked like. The wires had turned to powder and just break. Once I solder some heavy gauge 4mm solar wire I think it will be fine then.
