solar and wind turbine controller

I thought you were out?

You previously stated: "You need to get any lead/acid battery up to around 14.4V

But you link states "The boiling / gassing point of a Banner Energy Bull battery is 14.5V"

So I guess you are posting to agree with me?

I already posted the data sheet in post #14 https://www.batteriesdirect.ie/magento/media/wysiwyg/PDF/95901.pdf for my battery (it is NOT a gel battery as my link shows clearly) with the maximum charge stated as 13.8V, so why post a link that does not seem to back up your previous assertions that I should be charging at 14.2 V etc? A little confused as to why you posted again, therefore.

But thanks if it was just to confirm that you agree I have my voltages correct for my particular batteries. Much appreciated.

More to the point, how does your controller work on your expensive and well equipped catamaran?

LOL. With your attitude you certainly won't be with us for much longer! :encouragement:

My link says:

Q) What’s the best way to charge a Banner AGM battery?

A) We recommend using an “intelligent” charger such as those from CTEK or Sterling. Some chargers may have a special AGM setting but, if they don’t, use the setting which gives a maximum voltage of 14.7V during the “bulk” and “absorption” stages and 13.6V during “float”. Don’t leave an AGM battery on charge indefinitely as it could be damaged.

See my posts #7 and #9 for further details. I have 3 intelligent multi-stage chargers and they all follow these parameters.

I deleted this bit from my last post, but here it is:

You always seem to like to have the last word wherever you post.

A long time ago you posted that you had never lost a case. I imagined that meant you had once been a lawyer or something. I also thought it arrogant. You were arguing with another forumite about some legal issue they had trouble with and they did not agree with you.

I won't be arguing with you or replying to you any longer because as the saying goes: "Don't argue with a fool in case others cannot tell who the fool is".

I have posted documents that trump yours (try to keep the quotes in context). How can you argue with "max charging voltage 13.8 V " as stated in my document for my exact Banner battery (NOT a gel - YOU DID READ MY POST DIDN'T YOU? Doesn't sound like it !) as opposed to your general document for a plethora of Banner batteries? Oh, yes, you can argue black is white, because of YOUR attitude.

Why you persist to post about voltages is unfathomable (unless you simply always have to be right) although my document shows you are wrong.

You have not addressed the original point of this post at all. Why do you continue after stating you were out? Do you often say things and not stick to them? LOL ? Yes, I'm laughing because YOU have the attitude problem. Some people are extremely arrogant. We all know how rich you are with your catamararn in Croatia and your many cars that you always get through an MOT because you do the work yourself...

But that does not make you a good person or a better person than some others.

"I won't be with 'you' for much longer?" you write rather cryptically. That could be interpreted in many ways. How did you mean it to sound? Fell free to elaborate, reply or state your intentions, even if for legal reasons, but don't expect a reply.

(battery stats from manufacturer at end of post)

https://www.batteriesdirect.ie/magento/media/wysiwyg/PDF/95901.pdf DATA SHEET FOR THE BANNER BULL AS VICS sensibly suggested. Max voltage printed near bottom of document.

It does what I want for now, but I still have no idea if it is any good for the use of boat owners (all my tests are landbased) because the discussion went off to whether I had stated my charging voltages correctly.

Thank you.

what I wanted to read for myself was the info in the table in that link

It is Banner's own website, not that of a third party, nor someone's "opinion" and seems pretty unambiguous:

"Charging voltage ²) max. 13,8 V"

²) Recommendation with an external, voltage-regulated charge

I guess the trouble is most of us want to recharge a battery, be it our car battery, boat engine start battery or boat domestic battery as quickly as possible.

A good multistage charger does that by charging at 14.4 but then reducing to a float at 13.8 or thereabouts as soon as the battery is fully charged or a time limit is reached.

Ah Vic,

You don't know how much you have cheered me up.

Many thanks.

Ah, but you have posted so many scientifically proven and accurate and helpful articles that only a fool would argue with you.

Some people earn respect (as you have in my eyes over the years).

Have you been on the pop, SS? If I were you I'd go for a lie down. ;)

Dear Moderators,

I am more than happy for all of RichardS' posts to remain visible to the public (just in case you were thinking of deleting any or the like).

I won't see them because he is on my ignore list.
