One of the mildest winters I can remember and here's Easter - and what do we get? 35 knots of wind and freezing temperatures with the threat of snow!

So went down to the sailing club and checked the mooring prior to laying - had to cut out a 6m length of ground chain that needs replacing and the anode is the size of a golf ball - so cut that out too. At least I feel I've done something saily. You can't imagine the noise that the wind was making in the the cruiser-park.

Saw 2 boats going out of the Blackwater - neither under sail surprisingly as 1/2 a genoa alone would have seen us racing along at a rate of knots

What has everyone been up to?

A brief walk across the road to Bell Wharf was enough to confirm that plan A was about right. Tea and hot cross buns and a good book. Started reading "We didn't mean to go to sea" which I missed out on as a boy. The tales of sailing on the Orwell, Harwich harbour and The Stour did wonders. Not got to scary bits yet!

Boaty bits will have to wait - it doesn't look like another hot April is coming our way. Wouldn't it be nice to go back to having four seasons?
 
We have been up the River Cam to Jesus Green Lock and then down river to Ely.
Had some spray aboard punching through wind against river flow waves.

We managed to get through a small back water into our old sailing club's lake.
That was novel. Unfortunately there was no one at the club to see us.

We are now moored up at Ely Riverside.
It is cold on board as we have no heating.
Going to the Pub soon to meet T25.
Back up river tomorrow and back onto her trailer and home to warm up.
 
Just hung around the house today - catch up on some reading.
We've only got the one car at the mo & the wife needed it to go to work.

Visiting friends tomorrow.

Going sailing Sunday and/or Monday (the day(s) with least chance of rain - I can get them to turn up in the cold, the heath, the wind... but rain - forget it).
 
Lambing duty from 0600 till after breakfast, then reconnoitre a friend's wood to see if any of the piles of oak have potential for next winter's fuel.

Chain saw a biggish ash tree which came down a couple of weeks ago. Encouraged offspring to take her 125 Honda x-trail out for an hour, and sat waiting heart in mouth for her to return, muddy, cold and grinning from ear to ear.

Then immersed in a hot bath and the recent PBO for all of 15 mins. That's the nearest I am going to get to sailing for most of this year I guess, as the boat really needs the lectrics sorting properly. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Not to worry; it's another day in the life of real agriculture tomorrow. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
 
Been out to work today, playing at computer fixer. Already got tomorrows late call booked, start midnight, to play when store closed. Oh well, I don't think I'm missing much sailing at the mo /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Had been looking forward to joining Clive for a trip down the old haunt on the river until i get a phone call from step mother this morning saying father has been taken to hospital.....mad dash to St Georges Tooting to find he's been discharged

Appears blood pressure tablets were changed a week ago and they are not right...still dont understand why he let things go so long...

Clive.....tried phoning a couple of times.....if you get on line..... i m now back at home and available to help putting her back on the trailer tomorrow...let me know.

A depressing nought.
Bournville Easter egg made up for some of it though.

I might finally have a Pinto distributor and electronic ignition, which is the last piece in the kit car jigsaw puzzle. Fingers crossed.
 
I spent late morning (first day out for a couple of days cold/flu) watching trippers trying to drive around the front at Mersea, and hoping to see a couple of cars float.... Strood was impassable for around two hours....
 
well ive been abusy bee on my mac,suppose thats an advantage of having it in the paddock,muds a pain though ive now got her dirty.

i changed the steel plates on the shrouds to turnbuckles,moved the furler 7 inches up the mast and fitted a lever to the bottom,fitted a clamp for the boat hook,connected up some wiring for my metioman.Im hoping that the wind will mirraculusly drop this weekend at some point as i wanted to change the rigging so that i have all lines going aft,also on the cards was to fit slugs and sliders to the sails but i need the mainsail up to do that,so i suppose its gel coat scratches and buffing/waxing the hull tommorrow.
 
Didn't mean to go to sea - probably mine and the kids' favourite of all the Ransome books. Looks like we'll be meeting friends on the boat on Sunday but staying in the marina if it's blowing a houligan still...
 
Who's been a busy boy then, good to hear work is progressing.
Dougie, glad to hear all is well with pops, my day went almost to plan for a change, got some work done then made the tent pickup trip (many thanks Ken) before the trip to Ely for a pint with Clive and son, arrived home at 00-20 after a quick keeebab in Whittlesey (not going there again, yeuck) to a telling off from Ozzie the kitten, who had refused to come in before we left. The joys of pets. Now it's time for a swift pint and off to bed, early start again tomorrow.
 
Preparing for a family walk on Saturday around Kinder Scout. Getting a bit of hasle about "How cold will it be". Kids 20,24and 26 up for it plus brother and two of his and sister + BIL + one + SWMBO plus a daughter's "boy friend" making 12.

Why am I allways the one who organises (and gets the blame) for eveything?
 
Scraping, sanding, priming, filling, etc, etc. Problems of having a wooden boat with the crane booked for Wednesday. At some time before then it's got to be dry & warm enough to top coat the hull. Been at this for about three weeks!

Then I can get on to Sea Moon at Bradwell & spend two half days getting her ready to launch.
