Soay Harbour

We squeezed in there a few ago, it looked really shallow over the bar. It's also a very tight space once you're in, with some buoys taking up some of the room. On top of all that, our (Garmin) plotter placed us about 50m into the green stuff so anybody blindly following their GPS position could get into a lot of trouble.
Quite an interesting wee place, but I can see why everybody prefers to go round the corner to Scavaig. Bit of a busman's holiday for me though :D

We are in Mallaig at the moment, are you cruising, working or building?

Working I'm afraid! Kelpie is ashore for a major repaint job, won't be back in commission until the spring. But give us a shout if you're anywhere nearby.

been there ---went in at lowish water----thought the "bar" was not a conventional sand/shingle bar------but a rock ridge----holding was heavy black clay------ps before anyone follows me into trouble---i only draw 15 inches

We were in at the beginning of July.
CCC is correct and accurate - it always was tight and shallow and you need to time your comings and goings. I dont think having an antares chart would do anything other than highten any concerns - we've been going in for years - sometimes you park if you are there a bit early - I don't think it is any more challenging or to be feared more than Irene Maclachlans cosy wee place.

We used to go in and out of there with a 60ft MFV with a draught of 2.2m. Obviously not in the bottom half of the tide. :D
I don't know if the (fairly inconspicuous) leading marks are still there?
Does anybody still use leading marks and transits, or have plotters completely taken over?

Plotters and pilotage.
There was an idiot on TV who was driving his family from South Africa to Europe. He had no lights on one occasion and decided to use his GPS on zoom, it was a brainwave of his! He lasted about a minute or two before driving into a ditch and damaging g the vehicle even further.
