Just interested in trying to see through the hype. As a result of the SIBS are you or anyone you know actually going to buy a new boat in next 12 months. I am interested as most posts seem to lust after more classic boats yet the sales are mostly(?) AWB's so it it true that people who post on here are a different breed or are they pretending?

I went to SIBS and looked at a few new boats, but I have just signed the contract on a second-hand one I saw in Turkey last month. I did buy a red ensign for it at SIBS!

We came very, very close to putting down a deposit on a Bav 33. Decided to wait till London to get some more confidence on finances.

Looked at most 31-33 footers and kept coming back to the Bav.

I know that the quality is not up there with the rest but it beats the competition hands down on comfort and features (Which is important when you have family that endures sailing)

If I had another £30K I would go for the Najad. Great looking boat.

All the Bav's, Jens, Dufour etc were of better quality but lacked in the headroom and storage fronts.

Go on then everyone, tell me I'm silly.

Many will knock them but you seem to recognise the limitations of them and they are great value for money.

If it gets you sailing & getting more enjoyment from life - go for it!

Speak to Opal nicely and if you are serious they should at least send you some free boat show tickets.

Good luck

People will always stop and give a longing look at a classic car.

Most go out and buy a Mendeo/Passat/Vectra etc...

or the car which is now so common it outsells the Mondeo - is there any neighbourhood which doesn't have loads of 3-Series BMWs of one age or other.

Now if only HR could come up with a budget boat....

Oh and havn't you notioced that BMW engineering is not what it once was! The design is decidedly dody and they are now mostly X-5's or X-3's round here. Equity release and personal lease are used to finance the majority of these cars. You get what you pay for, so either HR will never build a budget boat or they will have to reduce quality. I hope they will continue to build proper boats at proper prices. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
