Thats the problem then, you have no water in it

I use some plastic-covered curtain wire to clear my raw water inlets and pipes, about 4-5mm dia so may be useful for your job too.

Thanks Ian, I found a wooden -BQ skewer followed by a pipe cleaner quite good - after dunping the whole thing in kettle descaler and waiting for the bubbles to stop

Have you tried taking the drain plug out again, possibly with the engine running?

When I tried to drain the water from my Beta28 for the first time from new I had the same problem so I removed the drain tap and found the drain hole completely blocked with thick grease which had been applied to thetap during assembly.It was difficult to clear.
