Thanks Ian, I found a wooden -BQ skewer followed by a pipe cleaner quite good - after dunping the whole thing in kettle descaler and waiting for the bubbles to stop

Have you tried taking the drain plug out again, possibly with the engine running?

If you don't get any joy then try emailing Beta.

When I tried to drain the water from my Beta28 for the first time from new I had the same problem so I removed the drain tap and found the drain hole completely blocked with thick grease which had been applied to thetap during assembly.It was difficult to clear.
