A romantic night on the boat anchored at The Rocks just me and the wife!

We did think long and hard whether to sell our boat for that reason but we haven't decided to go down that route yet. It is probably too late to do that this year and avoid the annual servicing / berthing costs.

Feel the same way as you at the moment. Haven't been out half as much as I would have liked but SWMBO doesn't like to use all our spare weekends on the boat.

She is starting to lose interest and can think of lots of better use for the money involved. To be honest, for the time we use her it is terrible value for money, even just sitting there is expensive!

Thats the trouble with owning a boat. If you dont use it then it becomes an expensive habit.

250 hours (we are slacking we had done almost 300 by this time last year) which equates to four week long holidays and day/weekend trips pretty much every weekend.

waw thats really impressive with a 23ft boat,

I am very pleased with our usage this season,
210hrs till today,

we did:
3 long day trips in south holland (Rotterdam area)
7 diving weekends in south holland zeeland, oorsterschelde
2 weekends northsea diving (Belgium coast, up to 35nm offshore)
4 weeks croatia including crossing the adriatic from Dubrovnic to Italy Vieste
1 week diving around Falmouth, Penzance and scillies
1 week diving in SOF Cassis
and 3 day trips / watersports here on a local canal

When the weather is not looking good, those are the spare weekends away from the boat ;)

It depresses me how little we went out this year.Boat is suffering for it.Might as well call it a floating caravan as we stayed on it lots and hardly went out.

Im going to sort out all the niggles and use it next year...What a waste.

Problem is im a bit of a petrol head and this year the car won every time it was a dry and sunny weekend(only time it comes out). It is always a conundrum,

Car or Boat!

Does "going out" count as tootling out of the marina entrance, tying up at the fuel dock after it has closed for the night, so we can play the sound system without disturbing anyone and getting pissed? Quite a lot if so.

Total engine time this season would be around 25 hours at most cos I'm bored of the river and its 6 knot speed limit. Started with a full fuel tank at the start of season, topped it up once in the summer and still got a 1/4 tank left now.

We are based in Burnham on crouch & use the boat as much as possible during the summer pottering around the coast & exploring different rivers, did about 65 hours this year, not as much as we would like but eldest had A levels etc so had to give him time for study with no distractions. In the winter we leave her at st Kat's in London & use her as a floating apartment for going to shows in the west end, shopping etc. Where else would we get an apartment in central London for £2700 for six months, now that is what I call getting value out of a boat.

Yes, I did think of doing that for No 1 son who is at Uni in London.

Today is a lovely day so I think we will potter about on the boat and just stay within the harbor. Lunch at Haslar bekons :)
