I have given away my YM mags with the correspondence on the best way to get ones sailing shoes back to a non smelly condition. Having just returned from a sailing holiday I need a solution to this problem. Can anyone out there help me with some realistic solutions?

There is only one real solution, new deck shoes. The smell is caused by bacteria, you can freeze them, that works for a while, until the bacteria breed again, but theres no real cure the smell always comes back.

It's bacteria that make your armpits smell as well, so the solution is the same: wash them and do it again if they start smelling again. (Or when you are told to by someone near and dear to you).
