But a warning - if the phone doesn't have a barometer (mine, Moto G doesn't), it still gives you barometer readings from the nearest weather station. However, it doesn't warn you it is doing this!

That's amazing. Just trying out Barometer Monitor app and it seems to work - though it shows a drop of 10mB when I got in the car to drive home and a jump back up when I got there. Surprised to see that the car's ventilation system sucks slightly harder than it blows.

Being able to see a trend of up to 3 days is fascinating.

Hmm. I have just bought the NASA barometer with the tracking display. Perhaps I should send it back.

I discovered the barometer on my nexus 4 thanks to the (so useful I paid money for the advert free version) "GPS status" app which seems to display info from various sensors including light, gyros, magnetometer and battery temperature and charge. As jamieyoung says...seems to be more accurate than my boat's brass one.

So useful to hear this a few weeks after I dropped my Nexus 4 and cracked the screen despite the case. I guess I should take more notice of the capabilities of smartphones.
