I have a Quick Aleph 1000w windlass with 10mm chain in a 40 foot sun Odyssey. Will the gypsy function with 8mm chain?
I ask because I was wondering about having a greater length of lighter chain.
Thanks

If you look at your current gypsy with your chain in you will see how it sits in the grooves and slots, how well do you think smaller chain will sit, not very well I would suggest and just ride up and jam, why don’t you just replace the gypsy with one for 8mm chain?

As Daverw said - no - the smaller chain will not fit.

New gypsies are expensive, or seem expensive for what they are. I'd check with the Quick dealer someone might have done a swap and they might have an 8mm gypsy looking for a home. But if you are downsizing chain the new chain will be cheaper, per metre, though you might lose that saving in buying more chain.

There ought to be a decent second hand market for gypsies - you are not alone.
