Small Porta Potti????

Another one from me! I have been searching tirelessly for a small portaloo for our little foxcub cabin, there is a small square lift up section which i hoped I could slot a loo into but upon looking properly I see there is only a small bucket sized hole... I really want to avoid the bucket option... there is a rather disgusting looking one on its side in the hole which I dare not even look at without gloves on... Anyway I digress... I want to get a little flushing style loo in there but can't see anything that would fit... (the hole it would need to fit into is 30cm high by 30cm tapering to a narrower front of 27cm at the front...basically loo seat sized with room for a bucket underneath - I know) am I missing something? Is there something I could to do have a flush loo???
 
I doubt you will get a proper flushing toilet in there.

My only guess would be look for the old style "elsan mini" toilet. I don't know if they are still made.

This is based on the "bucket and chucket" principle, but it is the smalest camping / caravanning toilet I have ever seen.

Used with the right chemicals, and emptied regularly, they are not that bad in use. Try and restrict it to just peeing in if possible.
 
I am in much the same situation.

I originally fitted a "Ball Hed" mini toilet although I beleive the space was designed to accept the (much more expensive) SL400. My Ball Hed is now defunct and there are no spares available so I have removed it.



If I move the echosounder I might be able to fit the smallest of the Porta Pottis or a Fiamma Bi-Pot 30 but i have reservations about being able to operate the valve between the upper and lower sections.

I am pretty sure neither will fit the space you have available.

I will probably use the old Elsan Mini toilet that we used when camping, until we acquired a Porta Potti.

That is a square bucket, measuring approx 34cm in each direction with a seat and inner and outer lids. I think it will fit if I discard the outer (non sealing) lid.

They are however no longer available to purchase.
 
Have a look at Camping Gaz. I saw a small flushing loo in a Super U store in France yesterday. It is new apparently and looked very small.

I have seen an older Camping Gaz toilet ... pretty similar in size and shape to the Porta Potti

But the NEW ONE I think I might check out if its available in the UK.

I think it is going to be the bucket job then... the space is really so small... in reality the space below the hole would be perfect for the campingaz loo and it looks idea but the hole is too small to allow to fit the loo into, annoying as if it could be slid in from the front it would fit perfectly, as the only way of getting the 'loo' into the actual space is via the hole in the top of the loo I think a bucket it is! :) thanks againf or all your advice and Prodave - the Elsan Mini is still being made, I think it is called the Bristol now or something!

That one has a much bigger footprint than the PP I have, which isn't much more than a foot by a foot, but that's still too big for the OP I think...

Is there no way you could expand the hole? Pic?

there are various sizes of Porta Potti, the model names supposedly relate to the number of flushes, so the '345' I have is supposed to be good for 45 flushes, - though I've never felt like calibrating that !

Model no.3 with a contents guage so one can tell when it's getting near critical mass.

It's easy to empty, with a swivelling outlet spout and a pressure relief valve.

Models with higher numbers are taller, requiring more headroom in the boats' heads area.

If looking for a chemical loo go to caravan shops, half the price of chandleries.

The great thing with these of course is no holes in the boat, no mechanism to jam, and they can be used when the boat is dried out aground.

People say 'what about the smell' but there shouldn't be any if the seals are in good condition; I reckon a porta potti lasts around 12 years, after which chuck it and buy a new one, they're not expensive.

I have an eye bolted either side of the loo, and simply strap it down with a bungee chord, which works well.

Nb on the left of the photo, a handle for male use if kneeling, soft foam 'hatch secure' strips on the step are kinder on the knees ! The handle has to be well secured.

I was wondering about expanding it... more a matter of confidence and time but may well have a look at this over the winter months. I'll stick a pic on here, will take some next time I am up there. The campingaz small is small but still too big for our boat unless we make a bigger hole!!! :)

the Ball Head was a superb toilet, i fitted 2 in my first to yachts ( 17 & 19 footers)
 
When fitting a porta-potti type I had to trawl through al sorts of specs to find one that fiited, my big problem was height, there are several makes and each make has several variants
 
We have found the same. Though ours is basically just a hole under part or the cabin seat, we don't even have so much as a cupboard we could put one in and the hole is so small even that's a problem... I'm
Basically trying to fit a portable loo into a hole the size of a loo seat... It's not happening! Bucket and chuck it i think is the only way :-(

I had same problem, the PP 335 was the only one that fitted height wise...

Crapping in a bucket isn't as bad as you'd think. Just get half a bucket of seawater beforehand and away you go. At least it is straight over the side.
