It's hot in Spain right now and we were discussing the possibility of getting a tiny freezer on board, just big enough to produce enough ice for the G&Ts. 240v is fine. Any recommendations?
We have an ice maker. Uses about 100w. Love it.If you literally just want ice, an ice machine might be a good idea? They're under £100 and saves messing about with ice cube trays.
Love our Alipcool C20. 1/3rd of the price of a Dometic (Waeco). Struggles a bit to reach -18c but runs less often when we set it to -15c. Froze a litre of water overnight. Insulation a bit thin on all these fridge freezers, so we keep a bath towel over the top less the vents which does help. 20L was enough space for a full Christmas dinner ingredients for the two of us.Alpicool are good value compressor coolboxes that come in different sizes, I used one as a fridge but they'll freeze. Usual outlets...
We already have a fridge on board and, these days, we only day sail around the Bay. The rest of the time we're on shore power so current draw isn't an issue.Another vote for Waeco/Dometic - they come in all sizes and can be used as a fridge or freezer.
I might have this all wrong but if you already have a fridge then buying a second item (whatever size or make) is not going to be as efficient (use of amps) as a unit that is a fridge/freezer. But a small unit means you can 'freeze up' at home which will save your amps if only for weekend use. But maybe you 'make' more amps than you can use.
An alternative is to give up the G&T and move up market and drink decent malt whisky the flavour of which you will destroy with ice.

It's not so much the price as the size/footprint as we have very limited space on board, hence the question about the Alpicool C9'Table top' mains freezers can be quite cheap.
