Small accomodation on motorboats

I have a 24 foot sailing boat. It can comfortably sleep 2 adults and 2 kids
Has an enclosed heads, a kitchenette, storage, a decent domestic power supply and is downright comfortable to live in at least for a weak.

Motorboats of the same size seem to have a couple of hard benches and thats about it.

I get that my cockpit is not full depth, and it is not a planing hull, but why cant small motorboats have as decent accomodation as yachts?

Check out boats like the Merry Fisher 695 (2015 on), 755 and 795.. Sleep 4 inside and if you have the enclosed cockpit you could probably sleep two out there too.. 695 is even trailerable so can be kept at home..

There are other makes as well with similar layouts..
 
Check out the English harbour yachts 27 - ok a couple of feet bigger but the accommodation is great.

There are 24ft boats with the accommodation you mention. a sealine s23/25 is nicely appointed and a Bayliber 245 has the accommodation you lust

What motorboats are you looking at? I can't think of many at that size that sound like you describe. Maybe some basic fishing or work boats possibly. In fact I think size for size, most mobos offer better accommodation that yachts.

Are you looking to buy a mororboat or are you just trying to justify to yourself why you own a sailboat? My Antares 760 motorboat will accomodate 2 adults and two children and also has full standing headroom so, together with the other motorboats quoted, there are definately choices that will give you the accomodation you need.

Yes can agree, a Bayliner 245 is very comfortable with Double berth, V berth, enclosed head and shower, good sized galley with hob and microwave, sink, fridge, mains power etc. Importantly (if you are after size) it has a wide beam and great headroom.

You can also sleep a couple kids in the cockpit area (due to a fill-in cushion in the rear seating area).

It has very comfortable seating throughout, far from having a couple of hard benches, with seating in the cabin and seating for 6+ in the cockpit.

My previous boat was the above; I now have a Jeanneau 30s motorboat which has considerably more room than my brother's 30 yacht as his boat has a very narrow beam, with his forward v berth bordering on useless.

In my view/experience there's good and bad design in both yachts and motorboats.

Did you post this thread as you are after a motorboat to suit your needs? If so what kind of budget are you working to?
 
I used to have a Sealine S23.
The S23 has a mid cabin which is the size of a small double bed . I would say the mid cabin is not a generous space but comfortable enough and it has a generous window /escape hatch opening into the cockpit . My wife and I spent holidays up to two weeks on the boat. The saloon V seating converts to a double berth using an infill cushion. . The boat has a decent galley with a gas hob and grill but no oven. The galley storage space is impressive. Hot and cold water including an immersion heater via shore power included . And a fridge in the cockpit. Heads and shower in a separate compartment.
I would have been happy to keep the S23 but the wife forced me to buy a bigger boat - which is of course much more comfortable.

But ive been looking at the 10k level. My jaguar 24 cost just 8k, with a 9.9 long shaft yamaha. Pergaps it is not length of boat that i an comparing but price. I did not realise motirboats were so much more expensive. Wife does not like sailing so i have been consideribg akternatives.

They don't have to be but the engine is an expensive lump of pig iron
I'd have thought for your budget you'd get maybe a fair line sprint or holiday.

For £10k you are going to have to look at older mobos. Try something like a 1989 Bayliner 2455 or a similar age Sealine 255 or falcon 22 or 23. Probably going to have to be petrol too.
 
My 24ft Draco has to be a marine Tardis, you can seat 12 in the cockpit or have 6-7 dine at the two cockpit tables. With the infill cushions it has a huge sunpad with room for 4, it has a double helm seat plus single nav seat. Below is standing headroom with place for 6+ round the table, there is a cosy cabin for two and a huge bed for 2 when the dinette is converted., and 2 can sleep in the cockpit. Also an enclosed heads with hot and cold water and electric flush toilet. There is a galley with fridge in the cockpit and diesel heating system so its well eqiupped for cruising. Its amazing what they have managed to fit in and no suprise it was called the worlds largest 24 footer when it was launched. In my 30 odd yrs working with boats I have never seen one that has more accomodation in just 24ft.
 
Yes its a Draco 2400, '87 model with. ' 97 Mercruiser 350 260hp. She will do 36 kts with the awnings off and we normally cruise at 24knts @ 34 lph. I have fully restored the boat inside and out with new carpet, headling, seating and decals so it doesn't look anywhere near 30'yrs old, and with just one coat of wax is a loat shinier than most boats 2-3 yrs old. I have added a lot of modern electronics while still keeping it looking original.
